No more EJ25 for me, blew the block apart while cruising down Don Knotts.

Anyone know of any Six Cylinder 01~s for cheap?

Agreed ^ How'd you manage to kill it and after how many miles?

That sucks, BTW.

I went to the mall and there was a stalled car, my friend and I pushed the car into a parking spot and asked if they needed help, a ride, or anything else. We werent sure what was wrong with the car, it wasnt a dead battery but it wasnt turning over. Probably the starter. But anyway.

We hop in Lesbaru, and we're talking about how reliable cars really are, and I say "I know my year has a headgasket problem, but if it makes it to 75K, I wont be too upset, it'll just be a few hundred dollars on the timing belt... I mean, its a solid engine it seems, watch."

I put my foot down to pass a guy, and right around 4,000 RPM GUNSHOT
CNKNCKNCKNCKNCKNCKCNKCNKCNKCNKCNC

I didnt have anywhere to pull off, and I'm as you see me now.

So I guess it had nothing to do with whatever removed your grill and half of your bumper lol

Hmmm gonna have to think this one over.

I can get a 4 cyl for 1200$ with a 6 month warranty, or a 6 cyl for 2000$ same warranty. Drop and forget replacement for the 4.

4 banger has problems...obviously, I never even got around to the headgasket issues for my year.
But new timing belt, headgaskets, and labor on it will be around 3K I'm suspecting.

Also would need the ECU, engine mounts, and the slightly stiffer springs for the 6. So more like 2500$ plus labor. I might need the 6 cyl Radiator and Fuel pump if I go that route too.... But my engine bay was made oversized because they are the only bodys that get the H6. (Until the Tribeca disaster anyway.) Same transmission even. Subaru's second biggest engine ever, weighing in at a massive 3.0 liter.

But everything I've found about the 6 cyl labels them as 'bulletproof' There isnt even a goofy timing belt, so thats money saved down the road anyway.

Or I could do a 2.2 swap? And have a bulletproof engine, its not like Lesbaru is going to get any slower. But with the 4++ Rear end and 210 ft lbs of torque, it might actually move with the H6.

Another + For the 6, if I were to replace the engine and buy a new 6, I'd be stuck with all kinds of 'mandatory options'.

That is, dual sunroofs (lol, gimmick), leather interior, etc. I like my complete lack of options, dont even got intermittent wipers.

If it's only the timing belt and the head gasket (don't think it would be both of them...) then I could help you with it for much less than $1200... PM if you are even considering repairing the engine.... (All depending on what needs to be done....)

oh no, I wish. The block is blown apart. its gotta get replaced, there is no rebuilding it.

I'm also finding some cheap H6 options, because there is no replacement for displacement, you know?

Oh nevermind... I forgot about the block.... Th 6 cyl would put you in SM....and we need more cars!!! :poke:

would you be willing to help? I'm wanting to but its hard to reason it without support, and my tools consist of a dremel, a floor jack, and a cheapie socket set.

I found a 2005 JDM but it seems like a lot more work. Subaru VTec and throttle by wire ....

to go with a 6 depends on your goals for the car.. if it is to have fun and drive it day in day out and autocross is secondary at best cool spend the money and have fun!! BUT if autocross is something you want to devote some effort on and you care about how you finnish ect... fix the car as cheaply as you can and use the money saved for a LOW buck HS or GS car... (may I recomend a VW golf/gti 8v for HS, or go honda with an old Civic for HS or GS)

Oh did I mention that an H6 powered Lesbaru will get DESTROYED in SM after all your hard work to do the conversion... but I agree lots of fun day to day and racing too I bet.

oh and sorry the motor blew... a subaru is the ONLY car that has ever left me stranded... sounds just like yours... blew the rod out the side of the block!! at least it was a work car and not mine!!

Nah I think Brucey wants a fun car all purpose... people hauling, rock crawling, autoxing car.

So you don't think an automagic 3600 lb wagon on triple treads will win SM?

Brucey
09-26-2006, 09:02 PM
What Sean said, If I really wanted to compete in the Autox's I'd get a better car, the tires on the car are 740 treadwear, its got 175 hp and weighs in at 3500 lbs...empty.. probably 4000 day to day... 4speed automatic.... did I mention I have a set of swamper tires for it?

But yeah, I'm wanting something that I can continue beating the hell out of and not whine anymore.

Engine
Ecu
Radiator
Harness
Mounts

all for an H6

Might go for an upgraded fuel pump and torque converter while I'm at it. But what I've got now should get the job done.
