He was injured during filming of the show... fits in the racing forum as they were attempting to break the land speed record in a jet powered car.

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has been critically injured in an accident while filming an edition of the programme.

Hammond, 36, was unconscious at the scene but was reported to be regaining consciousness when he arrived at hospital.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary following the incident at an airfield near York.

The presenter was attempting a land-speed record in a jet-powered car when the accident happened.

Top Gear is an excellent show for those who haven't seen it. Richard's personality really fits well with his co-hosts, and I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
