That sucks Nate, mine ripped at the last event at 140K go Honda
Still not fixed.

And Sam Ive been with you also, I had a flat yesterday due to a nail, and also like a week or two ago I had plug one of my tires due to a nail also.

Thats unfortunate so many people had problems, but I guess it goes with the territory.

Good luck to everyone who were unlucky.

Grass? We're just helping them expand the parking lot the next time they pave it!!!! :D

Cheers to a good event and last-minute course (re)design.

Yeah that was the first thing my mom saw as soon as she got there, thanks for that...

Gladly my parents calmed down and when I got home my dad was giving me advise on turns...?

But to add to the list my clutch is ofically fried now.
Anyways, I had a hell of time at my first event.

Sorry I missed the event guys. Sorry to hear about the misfortunes. In a completely unrelated subject, spectating at the NASA Championships went well for me this weekend. :|

Jimmy Mason also snapped a throttle cable, from what I heard.

April may have destroyed a rod bearing. That was the consensus opinion yesterday, though it's making a LOT more noise now that she drove it home. I may be able to just take the oil pan off to get to the problem and fix it myself, but after some reading in the Hayne's Manual, I found out that you have to drain the coolant, disconnect the radiator hoses, relocate the A/C compressor, and some other things just to get the oil pan off, then you have to remove the oil pump and balance shaft assembly to get to the rod caps. If that is, in fact, what is wrong with it, and it, infact, can be fixed that way, I may need some assistance.

It was something that attached the cable to throttle body. He was trying to zip tie it but it wasnt on there realy good.

Troy, let me know when you will be able to work on it...I would be more than happy to assist you any way I can...

I guess the first step would be letting someone hear it as it is now, so that if the mosr frequent noise is an indication of a different problem, we don't waste our time, money, and patience on the wrong thing. From there, any time is fine. I work at night, so it'll have to be during the day or after midnight lol. I'd like to have it ready by the next autocross if we can get it replpaced and broken in by then.

The day was going great for me until my 5th run. About halfway through my car starting making this horrible noise and it felt like it had lost power. I shot Brad Spurlock who was corner working a look of panic and he said that it didn't sound good. So I pulled off course at which time Troy and Martin as well as some others that I can't remember right now came to my rescue to try to diagnose the problem. The best theory that everybody could come up with is that my engine basically was starved of oil and I scraped a rod bearing...not very good seeing I couldn't go straight home because I had play rehearsal in Charlestn from 6-9. So we did what we could (put in some more oil) and I took my chances.

Well...I got home after rehearsal at about 9:30. I was nervous about driving it home, but I made it  Anyway, the noise seems to be at its worst when the transmission needs to shift? For example taking off from stoplights is a nightmare and everytime I push the throttle or let off of the throttle it feels like it won't go into gear. I don't know...guess we will update you as soon as we figure anything else out.

BTW thanks to everybody who tried to help us out! Having something wrong just reminds you how great of a region we have. Fellow autoxers offered everything from advise to even a trailor ride home if we needed it. I can't say it enough, thank you.

Let this be a lesson to all...CHECK YOUR FLUIDS BEFORE EVERY AUTOCROSS!!!

Same here after having a working car I seem to have idle hands in my free time...

Free time that just went to crap because 2 guys quit work this week...

April, did you not have enough oil in the car??? What was the level when you checked it after your last run? I really hope it can be fixed....if not, you're more than welcome to use my engine lift.... actually I think Jeremy has it now so you might have to fight him to get it... But I am sure if the rod itself is not scored too bad you can just replace the bearing. (after polishing the crank journal with some 220 grit sand paper...)

 nope....not nearly enough oil...I'm still not sure where it all went, but none-the-less, its still my fault I didn't check it before I ran. Thanks for the offer guys...we might have to take you guys up on some help with this.

Did you add some before you drove it home?

As a side note... when autocrossing, oil should be topped off AT LEAST to full mark....I usually put more than full as oil sloshes around and doesn't have to always reach the oil pick-up if not full....just one second of oil starvation WILL damage rod and main bearings at the rpms we are running out there.... Oil pick-ups are designed NOT to use every last drop of oil. They are about inch or two above the bottom of the oil pan to prevent sucking in possible metal shavings from normal wear of the motor into the oil pump...that's why there is minimum oil level....
This is NOT aimed at you April, I know things happen unfortunatelly and I know you guys take care of your cars! ...this is just to explain and hopefully prevent future problems for some people that might not be aware of this. This should probably be mentioned at the driver's meeting along with writing car numbers on cars. We had to stop a couple of times yesterday as some people didn't have a number or even weren't registered. :?

I saw the oil level... is was quite low but it was not empty!! I would say 1 to 2 quarts low... I do belive more oil was added post event.

Hope everything works out, I have my fingers crossed for you guys.

Oil levels are car specific. 944s are to be topped up, bet NOT overfilled, while twin cam Neons (if they don't have the PT valve train update) should run 1/2 qt low. YMMV! :D

Need to run the silly Hondas on the top mark. (Specially on the ones with variable valve timing, low oil and you are pretty much running on one leg.)
