According to Speed (http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/formulaone/38692/), the contract for the USGP @ Indy has not been renewed for 2008. Confirmation from the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/6760617.stm) and some typical Bernie:

He is keen to take the sport to other parts of the world, particularly Asia, and said no other US venue was in line to replace its usual Indianapolis home.

"We didn't reach an agreement. Let's see if we miss America," he said.

Not everyone agrees:

"We most definitely should have a race here and if you ask me, maybe two or even more in the United States," said Mercedes motorsport vice-president Norbert Haug after this year's US Grand Prix, won by Lewis Hamilton.

"For a world championship it is important to be here."

Well, that sucks, but is hardly surprising. Bernie is increasingly looking to pad his own purse by exploiting new markets. No French GP next year, either. Spa goes on and off at a whim.

this indeed is terrible!

More news here too :http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=40034

Troy and Robbie, your timing was perfect. You saw the last F1 race in the US for what might be a long time.

I wonder what the problem was...money? or was it really a "date" issue...hmm Makes you think what all is really involved...maybe politics had something to do with it...heh

Sounds like another reason to call someone a terrorist, black bag them, and bomb the crap out of what ever country they are from.

I'm pretty sure it was all because of money when you get down to it. More specifically, the race had poor attendance and no title sponsor. Given the relatively small market for F1 in the US, it's not a big loss for them...but it is for us.

I'd say more, but I gotta do a newscast.

I wonder what the problem was...money?

As much as I hate to defend Tony George http://ziza.ru/data/emoticons/wacko.gif, Bernie's sanctioning fees have been moving towards outrageous for years. It's no surprise that the new events in recent years have been in countries where the government chucks in a whole lotta cash to make things run.

Money and the two huge egos involved in the decision. Bernie always wants more for his pockets, but Tony is just as guilty after creating that wonderful spec car series for the 500 (which I refuse to watch).
