I got a few emails asking where all of us [Dan Sean and myself] were during the June Autocross.

We were all at VIR instructing at a High Performance Driving School.
Dan & I did two separate events and were on track for four days.
Sean came for the weekend event and instructed for two days.
(we'll get him on all 4 next year)

These schools are a great way to get on the track.
You get (usually) good instruction and it is generally a lot of fun.

The Thursday-Friday event was called "Marque Madness".
It was a cooperative event between local regions of the BMWCCA,
Mercedes Benz Club and the Audi Club.

There were approx. 100 students and the cars ranged from utterly stock
and slow sedans all the way to new Z06's and a couple of fully built
(authentic) Ruf racing cars.

Saturday and Sunday was a Mazda Drivers.com event and this is the
group that first got me on track in my Rx7 10 years ago this spring.
A better bunch of people you won't find and though it started as a Mazda
group, you will see a very wide selection of very nice machinery at their
events.

Thursay and Friday was on the well-known FULL Course.
Sat-Sun was on the amazing GRAND course.
Using the GRAND course (over 4 miles) is intense and really adds to the experience.

We have had interest from many SWVR members regarding these events.
The next Mazda event is labor day weekend and most of us will be
returning. (I'm hearing that Whiteman and a few others are contemplating the event)
If you are interested, check it out and sign up. It's worth every penny.

During an instructor session.

The car performed well. It was nice to drive it in its element.
I have some in car video (you can tell the camera wasn't in when this pic was taken)
but I haven't removed the camera from the car yet.

You haven't lived until you are pretty much flat out, nearing the braking zone at almost 150mph,
and a yellow Ruf racecar passes you with such force that the wind nearly pushed me off the road.

The late passes in the braking zone are one of the treats of the instructor
sessions. Student sessions are quite a bit more tame.

Best 4 days of my year so far
