I had an exciting drive to Beckley this morning watching a high-speed chase unfold all the way up the turn-pike. A woman come flying around me in a newer Acura TL at Cabin Creek, doing at least 90 with a cop in tow. The cop just back off about paint creek and slowed all of us down to about 50. Then at the pax toll booth there was about 6 troopers had her boxed in and she was still trying to get around the swerving all over the place. Finally got her stopped at the North Beckley exit and brought us to a complete stop. I was about two cars back when they jerked her out of the car, she was about 60-65 years old! CRAZY!
If anybody hears anything on Charleston radio, let me know. Curious, as to why she was running. Had an Ohio tag.

I think we have a case of Thelma and Louis here! Beckley paper says the driver was 61 and the passenger, her sister, was 65. Authorities are clueless as why she ran, but says she appeared to be laughing the whole way. They used spike strips three times before a trooper placed his cruiser in the line of fire at which time she rammed it coming to a complete stop.
While I was watching this yesterday morning, two troopers with shotguns in her face….it would have been glorious if she would have said, “Is there a problem officers?”

A case of female mid-life crisis maybe? :D But seriously, that's crazy, especially if she in fact was laughing during the chase...maybe time to visit the doctor?

Is there adult Ritalin?! May be in order her. Forgot to mention she was doing speed excess of 120mph!...you're going to feel that on the turnpike.

Ritalin is a stimulant, it would have only fueled her rage, and might have made her more attentive, and better at evading the cops.
At any rate, laughing while traveling 120 mph sounds pretty crazy.

That must have felt more like road racing...on the edge 100% of the time in the Acura...maybe she is a former scca racer? heh

Ritalin is a stimulant, but to those who need it, it actually calms them down. These same people get mellow when they drink caffeine.
I'm glad she ran. But I wish she would have gotten away. It surprises me how cops will continue a chase when someone is doing 120mph in traffic. That is risking the lives of civilians. The woman probably didn't do anything except want to have a little fun. Then again, I'm not much of fan of law enforcement, so I may be biased.

And according to the Supreme Court (I'm paraphrasing here, in my best shot at legal analysis for the layperson) - tough shit! Cops can keep chasing, regardless of who might get hurt.

Speaking of high speed chases, since being here in the DC area so far this summer, I've witnessed a high speed chase up close and personal once, and a few weeks ago there was a very high speed chase involving a biker (who got away I'll mention) where i think 6 people were killed because the cop is out there chasing a crotch rocket with a crown vic. Sure they should try to stop speeders, but please tell me you guys agree that its not rocket science to figure out who had the advantage on this one.... Small bike vs huge full sized car in stop and go traffic...

In this case I would give these cops an A+ for handling the situation as safely as possible. The initial cop dropped off after about ten miles or so and then acted as a pace car for the rest of us. The others evidently setup the spikes and formed sort of a rolling cage, which she took as wanting to play bumper cars. This all took place at about 40mph and is when the pack of traffic caught back up. They kept us back about 400yds before finally taking aggressive measures to stop her.

It says the top speed was 89 mph. Any way you look at it, she's crazy. I'd say that Acura could've gone a lot faster though lol.

OH-io...yes! They are the cause of my daily dose of anger and frustration. I have a special place in my heart for the ones that travel in pairs…both lanes blocked all the way to Charleston.
I was going to mention that, but figured I'd get some rotten tomatoes from our brigade of knowledgeable Ohio drivers.:)
Articles say this grandma was from NC, but could have sworn it was an Ohio tag...could have been reflexes. Craziness=Ohio tag!
