You've probably read about it, but the new Bridgestone tire has become the new hot tire for ST*.
Its shaming the real R compounds... wonder if Falken will fade out or up the ante and return with something.

I doubt falken will enjoy being de-throned from the ST* best tire seat for long... A bit of competition always drives the market for a better product ;)
btw, sean is this bridgestone tire that new Potenza RE-01R? If so, it's got treadwear rating of 140...? i thought that wasn't allowed in st?

140 is (or was in my STS days) the minimum treadware rating for STS. Of course, the manufacturer sets the treadware rating - YMMV.

140 is the min
The RE-01R is a 140 tread wear tire
Good luck finding a set of 15s "easily"

My beef with ST classes has always been that the "cheap" tire thing would not last forever... now with the the Bridgestone and Yok tires taking over looks like the tires will not be so cheap anymore.. I know Bridgestone is offering a rebate/discount for SCCA members but will that last??? and yes I would still much perfer to run on R compound tires (much more responsive and fun to drive on).. looks like H stock ran about the same time as STS just like in the past and FSP ran about the same as ST2 ... with equal drivers an r compound is still faster than a "street tire"

Yeah, the cheap tire thing may be over, which was deinfitely a draw for ST classes. Unfortunate.

Been there
Done that
I could add the tires to my page, but that doesn't mean they are available.
There are currently a handful of drivers in the US that have the 15s.

I just looked at them for the first time, and they definitely have a beautiful tread pattern. Nice and blocky. However, they're twice the price of the Hankooks and Azenis, so it'll probably be a while before they really start catching on in smaller regions...hopefully.
As for availability, you're probably right, Sean.

Probably... no more like 100% for a fact.
You can get the tires... how... well it requires making some tedious phone calls.
Will the tires be on local cars... it'll be on mine... why... these tires are VERY different from Falkens and I need to get setup data for nationals.
And cost... well that just depends on how fast you wanna go.
In the end autox is still a lot cheaper than other forms of racing.

guys on rr-ax were saying these tires are stickier than the toyo ra1s, and that they would guess they were r comps if they didn't know what tires they were driving on lol

funny thing is the tire companies put the wear ratings on the tires.. there is notning stoping Hoosier from putting some tread on an A6 R compound tire... changing the tire name and slaping 140 treadwear on the side...
R tires are allowed in stock and Street Prepared for a reason...... and it looks like the ST classes may be going down the same road.... like many said it would.
Perhaps the B Stone feels like an r compound tire because it is....

Dang it. Miro told me about these the other day. I might move my car to HS. I don't think the Celica is going to hang much longer in any class. STS seemed to me as the most affordable class to be in, but its not really looking like that anymore.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Celica is a has been. I believe the Celica GT is in GS, so you'll get creamed by the Mini Cooper S, the VW GTi, the new Civic. In STS, well anyone with a Civic Si will own the Celica any day of the week. Locally, yes you have a shot at doing well but a bigger region is trouble.

I know. There's no busting of a bubble here, only salt on a wound. It's a good enough car to learn how to autox in. And that's what it's all about right now.

Its a very good starter car... personally don't change a thing, run shitty street tires and you will be amazed at how well you can learn what the car is telling you. R comps, good suspensions, more power, etc just hides mistakes and in the end you end up being fast because of all that.
Come to Verona... seriously... we are camping out... you will see some pretty damn good STS cars out there and if my friend Jeff comes you will see one of the most amazing works of machinery... a handbuilt Locost 7 with a bike motor running BM.
