I think I am coming for sure, just don't know if I want to drive yet, i am either going to spectate, drive sean's car and get last, or drive my car and get raped by a million minis
spectating seems like the least painful
and brian(i hope i didn't forget your name this fast) it is june 30th and july 1st in peru, ind

Sorry I have dead last booked...
Its about 7 hrs from Charleston.
SentraWV
05-22-2007, 11:36 PM
None of you guys will be dead last. Trust me. If I didn't end up dead last in 2006, finishing 5th of 5 in H/S by several seconds :uhoh:, you all have nothing to worry about.
ShortysTRM
05-22-2007, 11:39 PM
There were only 5 entries in H-stock??
SentraWV
05-22-2007, 11:41 PM
Yup - 2 Minis, a Mazda3 wagon, BWM 3-series, and yours truly. The class sizes at Tour events seem to vary wildly depending on what classes are popular in that part of the country.

I think I might go. I looked at the venue on Google Earth. You can see the tire tracks from a recent autocross on the tarmac. Any recommendations for an inexpensive place to stay?

Hotels... should be cheap
For sure...
Marteen
Jason
Luke
Me
Johnny maybe
Toyota Nate maybe
If all 6 go we'd need 2 rooms, so it would be 80 bucks a night in a 2 bed room, so per person that would be around $30 a night. I am going to ask my brother to see if he has any points to get a free room or two.
Luke Zyla
06-13-2007, 09:20 PM
$30 a night sounds good to me. Would we be staying 3 nights?
SeanB

2 nights...
Friday night
Saturday night
Although 3 nights might be better since we'll be pooped on Sunday.

Entry was $100 last year, IIRC. Or right around that.
Luke Zyla
06-14-2007, 07:56 AM
Registration is $80 this year. You can register online on the SCCA website.
Luke Zyla
06-14-2007, 11:12 PM
I just noticed that at registration/tech they ask you to bring your drivers license, membership card, and a rule book. Do you really have to purchase a rulebook and have it in your posession? I looked into downloading the PDF file and it is over 300 pages long!
Jason V
06-14-2007, 11:51 PM
one of us can buy one and then everyone can use the same book ... actually I will buy it since Marteen and I will need one at nationals too...

Sean,
Have you made hotel reservations yet? I will be driving up from Tulsa, OK on Friday. I need to go there to visit my mother who is quite ill. Please let me have the details ASAP so I know where to go.
Thanks,

Do any of you guys need the Tour graphics? I've got mine from last year that I magnetized - SCCA Solo, main SCCA, Tour ("Road to Topeka"), etc. Lemme know, I'll be glad to loan 'em out.
ShortysTRM
06-18-2007, 05:29 PM
Do they not give you those graphics??
Jason V
06-18-2007, 05:51 PM
all of them but the SCCA and Solo ones are free at registration.. best part of a tour is trying to get the tire rack banner on... trick is to cut it in a few sections or every letter so it can curve a bit...

We all need our own rule book but it can be purchased on site.
We need the rectangular SCCA wire wheel decal and then 2 of the SCCA solo decals.
gtfour77
06-19-2007, 12:30 PM
Can we print it from the website? That's a real bummer if we do have to purchase it since it's avalable online...
SeanB
06-19-2007, 12:38 PM
You need a print copy.
Its $20 to SCCA members.
Luke Zyla
06-19-2007, 12:38 PM
You can print out the PDF file of the rulebook from the SCCA website, but is is over 300 pages long!
SeanB
06-19-2007, 12:48 PM
If a printable version works I can print it at work at no cost.
I am still buying a copy, just to be safe.

We'll have 1 room for 3 nights with 2 queen size beds. We can get a pull out bed for one person and I can take the couch. I am getting one room because it'll just be Marteen, Luke, JasonV and myself.
Rate will be $80 + tax per night.
So it'll be around $65 per person. If this is ok I need to know by today so I can book the hotel.

Ok I got screwed...
I got 1 room with a king size bed and a pull out couch bed. I will have them put a cot in there for us and I can sleep on the floor.
It'll be $71 per person after taxes and everything. The hotel is in Wabash, IN about 24 miles from Grissom.

I will see you guys at practice on Friday. I am leaving Tulsa on Thursday, picking up my trailer in St. Louis and driving another couple hundred miles before I try to find somewhere to stay. I'm glad my Miata gets such good mileage. 30mpg without trailer, 28mpg with trailer.
By the way, my sister has a Mercedes 55SL AMG and she let me drive it today. It is a small hardtop convertible with two seats. WOW what a beast! Rocket powered! I guess that is the kind of toy you get to play with when you marry a Radiologist. I would love to take that out on an autocross track sometime.

Wow, 3rd place for that 89 BMW 325is. They must have really got that thing tuned. It didn't seem to hook up that well at the airport event in Parkersburg. Good job guys. Almost all the ST guys are running Bridgestones. That's a little different than our little local runs. I would like to see some videos when you get back. Good luck tomorrow guys.

Good job on day one guys Marteen is only 4 tenths off of a trophy and Luke is ahead of one of the Pontiac Solstice's which is the new it car for CS.
Almost all the ST guys are running Bridgestones.
The new Bridgestones are faster and more consistant then the Falkens most of the local guys run. And they offer a fair bit of contiginsy(sp) money for the national tour.

For those of you that haven't run a National tour you need to get your ass down there and run one.
You will realize what driver prep and car prep is all about. I learned a lot in my 105 seconds at Peru, more than I'll ever learn at local events.
I'll be back next year, in a stock class car... seriously its cheaper running stock than any other class.
I dislike the new Bridgestones, they are NOT a street tire... a shaved RE-01R has a durometer reading of 70... thats not a street tire to me. It really questions what is SP and what is ST.

The 325 in question was not at parkersburg... the one that was at peru is a home brew turbo making 300 at the wheels.. not a great looking car but very cool and fast.. we talked to the owner for a while... nice guy!!
I had a great time and with a few more runs per day to get used to the "steam roller" celica I could have done better!! (I was happy to move up a spot on day two) Meet some cool people and saw some old friends from as many as 10 years back. Now it's time to start thinking about Nationals in September.. the biggest and coolest auto-x in the land.

Good job Martin. 6th in SM. That celica is definitely in there. Wish I could have gone up there. Got way too much stuff going on right now though, and no money.
gtfour77
07-02-2007, 12:10 PM
That BMW was definitelly interesting...
What we learned? Tires, horsepower and good differentials matter at big grippy events....oh and did I mention good drivers? What a treat to watch some of the people out there! WOW!
The celica did ok, competitive but not a trophy car just yet...about .5 seconds shy of it...
Saturday was just plain owefull, throwing away two of my runs with the only clean one being my safety second run...
Sunday went much better (with not being sick in the am and a bit more sleep).... Sunday I was about a tenth off the pace with 4th and 5th place finishers... still about .5 seconds from 3rd place... not bad but nothing to bragg about either, great learning experience and a great road trip! Oh yeah, and a real eye opener...heh
And learned that the hoosier S05's are not as good as the V710's...should have known better...( I think I was the only car there with those oldies on...)

I had a great time in Peru. It was a very impressive collection of fast cars and great drivers. As a novice, I was pretty much out of contention from the start. I did beat one of the Pontiac Solstices on the first day, but at the end, I ended up 2 seconds behind the guy. It is hard to compete against a car with 20 more horsepower, all the latest suspension improvements and huge 18" wheels with big honkin Hoosiers. There were only two Miatas out of the 8 in C stock. Chris Kirkham (Steel Cities Region) ended up in 4th place. The rest of the class were all brand new Pontiacs. The top three scored better than any of the Mazda RX-8 in B stock.
Some of the coolest cars were the A, B, and C Mods. I would love to drive one of those some time.
I was very happy with the way my car performed. The biggest thing I have to work on is my driving skill.
Oh yeah, I forgot. We got lots of really cool stickers for our cars. I even have "the TIRE RACK" plastered on my windshield. I don't think I will leave that on on there.
By the way, thanks to Sean, Martin, Jason for letting me hang out with them this weekend. It was fun.

SeanB
07-02-2007, 02:43 PM
I made it back a little after 11:30PM... 435 is a long way.
I did average 41.7 mpg on the trip back... I was kidding with Jason that I wanted to make the trip on one tank. I made it to Waynesburg, PA and decided that even though I was 20 miles from home I didn't wanna risk running out of gas since the next exit was 14 miles away.
Luke Zyla
07-02-2007, 02:51 PM
41.7 mpg? No way! My little Miata only gets 30 mpg. Were you coasting on the hills? Did you have Jason get out and push for a while?
SeanB
07-02-2007, 02:54 PM
Nope not coasting... foot to the floor... 3400 rpm at 70 mph.
