okay, I'm going to be getting 16 inch rims soon. and I'm trying to figure out what tire size i should buy to slap on the rims which I hope to aquire. here are the options:

falken azenis:
205/40/16 (gives me wider than stock contact patch by two sizes -stock 185- and gives me even more advantage in acceleration than my 195/60/14 does now. The difference in my acceleration is VERY noticeable between going from 185/70/14 to 195/60/14 even tho it only runs my speedo 4.1% faster. with 205/40/16 it will be about 7.2% faster, which seems to me will be even MORE noticable.)
215/45/16 (gives me slightly wider oriented contact patch, but less acceleration advantage over stock. would drive the speedo 2.3% faster than it should be)
225/50/16 (would fit only in the front, would have to have a different tire in rear. would drive my speedo 0.3% too slow)

yokohama ao48:
225/45/16 (will probably fit in the front and REAR with a 225 wide tire, would have a slight gearing for acceleration advantage over stock, but very very small. only will drive my speedo 0.9% too fast and I think the yok's might be a better tire than the azenis. only problem is 200 dollars each)

I'm thinkin that although the 205's are narrower, the gearing will probably give me more of an advantage over my grip through corners. PLus the narrower tires wont weigh as much as wider ones. The yok's although I would love to have more than anything else, I highly doubt they are in the budget for this season.

anyone know of any good competition tire that's 225 wide on 16 inch rims that are lower profile than 45?

You know my opinion on tire width...:D :D :D

All joking aside, I'd pick the wider tire personally...your car is a momentum car anyway you slice it(most FWD and RWD cars are with the exception of a few very well setup RWD's maybe) and can certainly take advantage of the wider contact patch IMVHO...

205/50/15 Falken Azenis RT 615

Tire size means nothing without wheel width. Each wheel has an optimal tire that it can take, you can't fit 275s on a 5" wheel.

Oh btw... you might not know this, but the A048 is NOT an STS legal tire.

STS tires MUST be 140 tread wear or higher.

yes, the rims that I'm thinking of getting are at least 7 inch wide, might be 7.5. i need to talk to nathan about them soon and fork over the money :)

I suppose that 215/45/16 is what I shall go with then since that is the widest I can go without rubbing most likely. And that sucks that the yoko's aren't STS legal :( :( :( they look sooo stylish...

I would go with the 205/40 16s. I seen how the 225/50 16s fit on your car, and it's better safe than sorry. Smaller tire will increase your accelleration. Martin is right, wider is always better, but I think the 205mm wide tire will be enough for your car. Fitment is going to be your biggest issue.

Aren't the Falkens actually a little wider than they say they are, anyway? I seem to remember reading that somewhere long ago.
