View Full Version : AutoX on Saturdays?

I'm sure this has already been discussed..

I was wondering what the difficulties are in moving the AutoX's to a Saturday date rather than Sunday.

Would a Saturday date be more popular with the chapter?

Many AutoX's I've been to have been on Sundays. The one that we had in Clarksburg this year was great. (not just the event itself but the Saturday itself)

I really do not know what the popular opinion on this is. There's probably some good reason why its on Sunday...anybody?

Just wondering,

*Mod edit* I added a poll to get popular opinion.

Phew, I was wondering how I hit the poll button! Thanks Mod/Chet

I've often wondered this myself but never had the initiative to ask. I voted for Saturdays for several reasons.

1) Allows for a Sunday rain date, if organizers are so inclined.
2) Eliminates the Church or autocross decision that many have to make.
3) (This one is purely personal) I occasionally have to travel for work on Sunday evenings. It doesn't happen all that often but invariably when it does we also have an autocross scheduled :x . This happened twice last season but no problems so far this year (fingers crossed).

If the event was on a Saturday, I would be more inclined to volunteer to organize one. I've often thought it would be fun to do but I just can't volunteer for one on a Sunday since I could learn as late as the week prior that I have to be out of town.

Interested in other thoughts :D

I'd also agree that with the lots that have been used, businesses needed to be closed in order to use them. But with school closed, saturdays could be used during summer vacation.

During the school year there are events that are held on Saturdays which would hinder their use.

Something else that was mentioned was night racing. If we could get a lot like Lowes or similar after closing would be neat. Maybe if you could find a place out Southridge on a Saturday evening would greatly draw a crowd a potential future members.

On the flip side, some members work on Saturday. I use that day to get everything loaded and ready for Sunday. But if there was a race on Saturday then I would find time to load beforehand.

So either way would be fine with me.

The main reason for Sunday was more or less given in a post on this very forum. "The reason" wasn't so much the stated reason, but rather the source of the reason. That might make sense to some of you. If I could guess, I'd say the original reason was the work issue. Reason...I just wanted to say "reason" again!
That's a good reason

Personally I have to vote for Sunday as Saturday seems perfect for car preparation. I thought a lot of people worked on Saturdays too... No matter what. I'll try to make it to as many events as possible...

Or you could just look at the schedule...but we won't open that can of worms again.

I had wondered about this when I checked the event calendar. I voted for Saturday, but understand that some folks work on that day. Can't imagine my newcomer vote counts for much.

I would have to say Pick a day and stick with it whichever day that may be. Keep things predictable and easy for us memory impared folks. Sunday leaves saturday for car prep and probably more people work saturdays than sundays.

rain date: this is the scca not nascar. rain, snow, wind, events go on. Short a couple events where safety is a serious issue wet pavement doesn't stop sportscar drivers. many more people are now traveling long distances to have fun(as do I) and we would like to know that the event will happen no matter what.

Those of us with young kids would have trouble with Saturdays - T ball , soccer, etc.

I voted for Saturday. But like Chet said, it's been this way for so long, I doubt it'll change. Makes no difference to me really. I'll be slow on either day anyway...

I know that I have only been to one of the autox that you have had, but I vote that sunday is better (especially since I work every saturday LOL). The clarksburg event would have went well either day because there is never anything cool like this up here. Hope to come down that way sometime. Been workin every weekend on finishing room in my basement or some poker run for charity. And don't you have them only one Sunday out of the month? I am sure god wont mind if you goto an autocross one Sunday a month instead of church.
