View Full Version : Why SpeedTV sucks even more

Ok, so I know that I get on here a lot and bitch about things but this really really has to be said.
This is a copy and paste from an IM with my friend Dave. I start the conversation. It alternates whenever there is a line space.
I just noticed that the f1 race is at 3:30
I'm going to hit up sean and see if he wants to watch it downtown
speed no longer shows it live so I already know who wins
their web site has gone awful
stupid videos that keep playing every time I view a page
the videos of course are all promos for some stupid show that I don't want to watch when all I really want to do is find out when the f1 race is playing
and as a consequence of bad layout they also popped up a news banner telling me who won
oh jesus
so I ask you, what is the point of actually trying to find out when to watch a race for which I already know the result
That is annoying.
They haven't even broadcast the race yet and they already have who won on their site?
yes
That's just %(*%^$# stupid.
yes

I've been irritated at speedtv lately. That is a pretty stupid thing for them to do.

all that NASCAR bs is the worst thing to happen to speed in my opinion

Hun? The Malaysian GP was on at 2:30 in the morning this morning, because it was live. The 3:30 pm showing was a rebroadcast - of course it won't be live.
Speed certainly does a lot of crappy things with non-NASCAR stuff, but the treat F1 very well. The problem with GPs in Asia is the time difference which, amazingly enough, it's Speed's fault. :p

Huh? to your Huh?
First of all, most people aren't up at 2:30 am to watch an F1 race and that's not the problem.
The problem is that SpeedTV is just that, a TV channel. Their web site should therefore serve the viewing audience of that channel. That means that it should not be trying to get web clicks in an effort to genrate advertising revenue by way of attempting to be an all purpose motorsports news page. Specifically, it should not be showing race results for a race that most people haven't yet seen. If I'd wanted to know who won I would have gone to F1.com or a great many other much better f1 enthusiast sites. If I just want to see when SpeedTV is showing the F1 race then I should be able to do so without being told who won.
Is that really so unrealistic? I don't think so.

IMHO it is. If ABC carried a certain golf tourny, you could expect to see the results on ABC.com. The same could be said for any sport and TV station. I use the guide on my Suddenlink box to find out the schedule or I just turn it on with the DVR. I agree that SPEED does some wierd things(NAsCAR), but I think your bitching about something that you shouldn't. Once the race is over, MANY places/people/forums/websites/etc will have the results posted. It's up to you to avoid it.
I just tried it... TVguide.com worked well and didn't tell me the results.

Well, it's a news site. Who won the F1 race would be considered news. Besides, the complaint seemed to be that they put the results up before they aired the race, and that's not true (if it is, I hope they have somebody playing that F1 Pick 6 game!).
FWIW, a couple of years ago, they did a similar thing with the World Challenge races from Sebring. They had headlines on their front page with the winners names in them, oblivious to the fact that they weren't actually showing the races until a week later. That's a little shitty - they could have just put "Sebring WC Results" as the title or what have you.
On the other hand, I agree completely with the video that loads up on the Speed front page. That really is annoying, particularly if you're stuck with dial up.

Complaining about SpeedTV is like complaining about the weather. It won't do any good and the people in contol don't listen.
The channel goes solely where the money is and that's why the focus on NASCAR and those incipid reality shows.
Oddly enough (and as John said), they do treat F1 very well. We got coverage throughout the weekend and live races (well, except for the ones carried by other networks).
In a few years, it's highly likely that SpeedTV will become the NASCAR Channel and other forms of motorsport will be relegated to either a new startup or to ancillary coverage on ESPN channels.

SpeedTV.com/news is the greatest!! I check that site at least 5 times throughout my work day to see what's going on in Formula 1. They break news before F1.com, and half the time they're exclusive to SpeedTV. We stayed up and watched the race live from 2:30-5 AM. Sometimes the videos get on my nerves because I can't figure out how to turn them off, but when shows like F1 Roundtable are playing, it's hard to complain.
BTW, while we're discussing Speed TV, I figured I should mention a couple of shows. Forza Motorsports Showdown was awesome. It had its cheesy moments, but it was still fun to watch. Hopefully there'll be another season. Also, a show called Setup is coming out soon in which around 6 teams are given a stock Solstice GXP and have to set it up and drive it in races against the rest of the teams. I don't think power mods are going to be used, so it will be all up to the setup and the driver. Pretty cool.

Forza was the dumbest thing I have had the displeasure of watching.
The Setup has potential, the participants are well know in the world of rr/ax.

Clearly you don't watch enough television lol. I thought it was cool. Like I said, it had its cheesy points, but it was fun to watch. The cars weren't fair, obviously, but neither were the drivers. In a competitive sense, it was complete cluster %#$!. However, it was an interesting mix of nice cars and awkward drivers. The "autocrosser" was a complete asshat, though, and the host was a former American Gladiator. If you have to be at least 22 just to have heard of his show, you know the host is outdated.
It was much better than Nopi Tunervision lol.
