OK, I didn't see this (http://insider.speedtv.com/viewtopic.php?t=140808) coming: Speed GT at Charlotte during a NASCAR weekend. According to chatter on the SCCA Pro board:

Yes, Lowes does have an infield road course, but at the time the SWCGT Series will be there, it will be filled with NASCAR haulers. We will be running on the oval with modifications such as chicanes to slow us down every once and a while. It will be a one day in - and - out for us.
That's from Sonny Whelan, 2005 Rookie of the Year.

Am I the only one who thinks this sucks?

So, this NAsCAR weekend will actually feature "stock" cars? What's the world coming to?

Bringing this thread back from the dead 'cause, well, even Lazarus didn't smell this bad. Their latest trick (http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/scca/37414/) to entice the NASCAR nation:

Beginning with the SCCA SPEED World Challenge trademark standing start, the race will be divided into two sessions, each lasting no longer than 20 minutes. Once the first session has been completed, the pace car will pick up the field and escort them into pitlane. There, teams will change all four tires and make adjustments. All the work must be completed in five minutes and refueling will not be permitted.

During this intermission period, a ceremony will be held involving the “wheel of inversion” to determine the restart order. Numbered with positions one through five, the number that is landed on will indicate the position of the car that will make the restart in first place. If the wheel lands on one, there will be no inversion.

For the second session, cars will be lined-up in their order before the intermission, plus any inversion, and lapped cars will be placed at the back. The second session will commence with a double-file rolling restart.

Hey, I've got an idea! Why don't we just get rid of all those cool Vipers, Vettes, 911s, etc. and replace them with tube framed "Cars of Tomorrow" with outdated technology that look kinda sorta if you squint really hard like real cars? Then we can ditch Sebring, Mid-Ohio, Road America and all those and just run at Charlotte, Texas, Kansas, etc. That'll really make the NASCAR nation pay attention!

Damnit, where's the "I'm pissed" smiley when you need it?

If that didn't come from a reliable source, I'd think you were joking. I don't follow Speed GT, but I watch it when I see it on. I had no idea that silly stuff like that was going on.

Guaranteed that Humpy Wheeler is at the heart of Speed GT going to Charlotte (he's the track's promoter), too bad they can't use the roadcourse. The inversion of the field halfway through is a great idea though, provides great racing. Wish I was there tonight to watch the winged sprints on the dirt track across the street.

It's a neat trick and would be fun for a one-off All-Star kind of event, but this race is part of the championship. As such, it'll be completely different from the rest. Besides, I don't think SWC has pretty great racing without resorting to that kind of gimmick.

In my opinion they have the best roadracing in existence right now. Inversions just make the fast guys work harder and show more of their talent.

or not work as hard at the begining of the race

Depends on how many positions are being inverted or if that is even determined before the race or in the middle of it.

That was the worst WC race ever.

Yup, that was pretty ugly. Somebody on RRAX suggested that whoever designed the back straight chicane needed to be kicked in the nuts. I imagine there'd be a few volunteer kickers.:fire:

Watching that race would have turned me off this form of racing. Watching a race and seeing somebody hit a giant tire? What the hell. Of all the tracks.
