I am interested in putting together a Road Rally to raise money for the Relay for Life. I've never been on one before and dont know all the details. It might be a good exercise for the club as a "trial" run of sorts in case we want to organize one or two a year.
Can anybody point to some details on organizing such an event. Does that type of event require insurance the same as an autox?
Any input would be helpful.
Thanks

I wouldn't think the insurance would be the same... you can't go over the posted speed limit in road rally and there are no safety requirements other than seat belts.
Didn't we have road rallies in the distant past?

The Club put on a two day Rally/Tour in the 70s and 80s which was a Big event. It was a couple of hours drive on Saturday ending at a State Park /Snowshoe type place with dinner and party then a few hours drive back to Charleston on Sunday. Check points were pretty easy.
A few hour fun/tour type event could be fairly easy to set up.

Another idea may be a combo rally/tour and poker run. That might get a better turnout mix with both those 'on a rally' and those driving point to point for a poker hand. Sponser prizes for overall and each stage could bring a large crowd.

Thanks. I'm going to hit the Internet in search of rules and maybe some sample instructions/directions from other events. It sounds kinda cool. If somebody already knows of a good source of info, feel free to post it.

Contact national or look on the website. Yes, you have to have insurance. Our region used to put on many of these events, but due to many complaints to the rallymasters they quit trying to please everyone. It can be fun, but does take work, you must drive the roads you are going to use several times to make sure you have set it up correctly. It can be done as a time-speed-distance rally or as Skip said a gimmick rally, as in the poker run style. The t-s-d type requires more work and many more calculations. You also must have several teams of workers to run the check points. The club used to have the rallywatches, signs, charts, time cube (for setting watches properly), manuals from national, etc. Don't know what happened to them. But whoever has all the boxes that moved from RE to RE might want to look through them.

For a charity event, insurance is a flat $50 and each region is allowed one event a year. Form is located:

I'm sure Dave Bruce from RCR could give you some help in how to set up an event if you have any questions.
