Since we had a snow day today, I was home to watch the A1GP race from Sydney, Aus. on the Speed Channel. What an exciting race to watch. All cars have equal design so success is dependent on driver skill. Too bad they don't have any races in the US. The cars have a power boost button that they can only use a limited number of times for passing. Does any other road racing series have such a thing? For more info on this sport go to

They use the "Power to Pass" button in Champ Cars, and possibly in some other open-wheel racing. It seems a little too much like a video game, and it's frustrating to know that the engines can produce that much more power but are only allowed to for short periods, but it is definitely interesting to watch. In Champ Car, they use Bridgestone Reds and Bridgestone Blacks, with corresponding colored sidewalls, as different tire compounds so that the spectator knows what compound they're using. I believe the Reds are limited to one set per race, too.

A1GP is deinitely cool. It seems weird how focused they are on ethnicity, but the racing is great. Hey, maybe Martin and Miro should try out for the Slovakian race driver...I don't think they have one, yet.

If you like A1, you might very well like the GP2 series too.

The GP2 series is fun to watch and proves to be a good feeder series for F1. Hamilton, Rosberg, S.Speed, Heiki are all veterans for the GP2 series that have now moved to the big leagues.

I think its great to see a spec series as the feeder for F1. This way you can really see who is the best driver (not those who have most $) and who deserves to go further.

As far as engine power, I believe that the most challenging type of spec series is those with somewhat lower hp. Once again, this can show what driver can use 100+% of their machine. I record A1 as much as F1 and very much look forward to 2007 year in both series.
