Now that I have some experience in autox I would like to do some more serious competition. Being the only car in C stock most of the time, do I need to bump myself up one notch into B stock? What is the procedure for doing this?

You can't get into BS unless you get a BS car... your most likely step from here is to CSP or SM2... the latter of which is a dead class around here.

In SCCA classes are defined by make and model, mods put you in a street prepared, prepared, modified, street touring class and not a class up from where you are. (So mods won't put you into BS, AS, SS, etc but instead into SP, P, M, etc.)

Oh and welcome to the lonely world of one car classes. :(

I checked the 2007 rule book and there is a provision for bumping into the next stock category if there is only one person in any given category.
“Bumping” is not approved for championship events. However, the
following bumping order is recommended for regional events in cases
where a class is to be combined with another class." p.210

HS ⇒ GS ⇒ DS ⇒ ES ⇒ CS ⇒ BS ⇒ AS ⇒ SS ⇒ To correct Street Prepared
STS ⇑ FS ⇑ class for bumped car.

Has this ever been done on a local level? I see evidence of this in other regions.

On the local level being "stuck" in a one car class can happen .. best thing to do is find someone (class is not important) who you find is consistantly a bit faster than you.. 1 to 3 seconds.... then try to close the gap or consistantly run faster.. wash rinse repeat.... finding a co-driver for an event is a great way to add some competition that is actually your class... and being your car any excuses are out the window...aka his/her car was faster than mine.... or try taveling to other events.. Steel Cities has some VERY fast C stock drivers.. also Columbus may have a larger C stock field...

later on in the season some of us will be going to some national tour dates... where I can nearly gaurentee a good c stock turnout...

Bumping occurs in the results, not at the actual event. In other words, if you're the only car in C/S, you will get "bumped" up to be compared with another class. One problem we frequently have is there are so many classes that you can bump through 3 or 4 classes before you find somebody else. You may bump all the way to SS, for instance.

Have someone fast codrive with you once in a while. It raises your driving level and sometimes teaches an old dog some new tricks! If you don't run rcomps maybe you could compete in STS2? There might be some more competition there (I'm not 100% sure, I haven't been to a SWVR event in a few months).

I might come play in C-stock with you this year...probably not in February (I want to see how the spec.B does).

I'm thinking about running Jennifer's (wife) MR2 spyder this year and she may come out and run too.

I wonder if my navigation system will help me through the autocross course.... "

I hope you come to play in C stock. It would be fun. I guess you could walk the course with your nav system and set waypoints. What a hoot! You could have it speak in French and you would feel like one of those French rally racers: "a droit! a gauche! alle, alle! Sacre blue!"

Lesson learned: Do not go to Taco Bell before autox.
