 i wrecked my camry today. the radiator is pushed on top of my headers... car still runs tho... but the entire front end is crushed. I'm so pissed off.

I'm trying to figure out how I can get a new car soon. I'm hoping to find another 2nd gen camry that's got a blown engine or something.... for somethin like 200 dollars... and swapping over my parts. I'm just so pissed about it. I'll add a picture to the thread when i can get some batteries for my digi camera.

ah well, I guess I'm not going to get to autocross anytime soon now because of this... it's just been a long day.

Man, that sucks. You never even got to test the new setup.

What happened?

Hey man, if it still runs and moves, maybe we could fix it. You can slap on a new bumper and lights. That front support is replacable. That sounds easier than finding another one and swapping the motor.

So you were the other one...

Join the club... mine likely bit the dust tonight. :(

well, as promised, some pictures of the mess.

I'm not sure if I bent the frame of the car at all, but perhaps I'll be able to fix it enough to be drive-able

and of course just to let everyone know what happenned, since I didn't really explain it earlier when I posted the thread... I was driving on Beechurst at about 2:20 this afternoon and it was stop and go traffic. I was driving along and the person in front of me stopped suddenly, and unfortunately my nose had to sneeze at the worst possible moment, when I noticed the car was stopped ahead of me it was a little to late to stop my car in time and I rear-ended a subaru legacy outback. My car however took the worst of the damage. but it was an all around miserable experience, I hadn't put on a coat when i headed out because i was just dropping my gf off at class and coming back to my apartment, so i figured i wouldnt need it... well was out in the cold no coat for a good hour  thankfully I had my -25 degree rated sleeping bag in my trunk still from the last time I went cold weather hiking :|

and without further commentary I present to you the end of the world:

Andrew, you can fix that with about $30 worth of parts from Seichrist....

Seriously, that really is an easy fix...

really? cause i was looking at the body parts that I'd need to fix all that crap on the internet with my dad, and he estimated it to be about 800 dollars. :?

Yeah, I'd say that's the price it would cost if you could do your own bodywork.

Andrew, if you intend to fix your car then I would suggest going to Sechrist U pull it yard in Dawson Pa (about 50 minute drive from Motown.. There is also one in West Alexander by Wheeling... I bet you could get all the parts for less than $200...depending on what you need it might be less... http://www.sechristautoparts.com/ They have a price list online so you can figure out what you need. I have always seen a couple of your camry's out there. I'd try the Dawson location first..

well, I got my car fixed up today with the help of a large hammer, a crow-bar and 86 dollars worth of parts from sechrist. the most enjoyable part of this project was flattening out my hood with a giant hammer. people walking in and out of my dorm looked at me rather strangely as I was smashing it :) great way to relieve stress after a stressful week of class!

thanks martin for the information on that junkyard. it saved me a lot of money.

at anyrate, my ride still looks like it has been smashed, but it looks better than it did before. certainly road worthy. I hope it will pass tech inspection for autox. there arent any loose things hanging from the car so i think i'll be good to go.

i'll post a pic up of the finished deal soon i guess.

question for anyone in morgantown. I need to touch up some spots of rust with spray paint i got. was wondering if someone has a garage that i could paint these spots up in. the weather is too cold and too wet to do it out in a parking lot.

Congrats on getting it road worthy again. I told you you are welcome to come to my place to work on that thing. I don't have a garage, but I have a car port. I've painted out there several times. Weather isn't good enough for it right now though. Has to be at least 60 for most paints. I found that out the hard way. Let me know if you want a hand.

You're welcome to use mine as well, I'm on Burroughs street and have a garage. Propane heat. Paint in there all the time.
I rattle can everything black. It makes it less likely to get stolen, I swear!

yeah, i'm just going to sand it down and prime it, then go over with some black spray paint to prevent excessive rust. Black goes with everything after all. :)

Did you ever figure out anything about those headers??

I had a good bid on them too, ah well. Live and learn.

Only thing thats ever been stolen from me actually.

well, things are nearly back to normal. I have one little bit of rust to sand down, prime, and paint on the fender on the pass side corner lense area. then I have some bumped paint which I'm going to go over the bumper with really quick. nothin too fancy here.... then the grill, i just don't like the chrome look to it, I'm going to black it out as well with flat black paint. It actually does not look bad at all. I'll take a picture when there is daylight out and post it up tomorrow.

Gorram it Sean, You or anyone else here just ask if you need to use my garage :P

And I'd call the camry a good 15 foot car. Not too shabby for rattle can and a big hammer :)

So Sechrist didn't have a hood for you? Did you go to both yards? Actually Jordan's has a U Pull It about 20 mins from Mrgantown...not many engine parts but a lot of sheet metal... I remember when they used to have "$40 all you can carry"....that was a sight... to see how much stuff can one person hold and carry through the gate...:)

Brucey

they actually had a really good hood on the car i got the hood latch off of. problem was my dad's car wasn't big enough to throw the thing in. I'm probably going to try to go up and search the place again sometime. when I was there I didn't see any 1st gen lexus es250's (2nd gen camry) in the yard. I also didnt see any luxury cars where I was at all. So I wonder if they put luxury imports in a different spot. But I want the strut tower brace off the 1991 es250, it will fit my car cause they're the same chasis essentially, and getting one from the junk yard will be much less expensive than buying an aftermarket brace. Also I was looking to see if there were any of the last generation celica's there. The alloy wheels on those celi's fit my camry. I assume they probably strip parts like that off the car tho, but if I can get them thru a junk yard, would be a good set of rims to put some good tires on for autox only purposes :)

at anyrate, i think this hood as a bit of character ;)

I wish I would have known that last weekend. I could have avoided painting in my kichen, having that huge headache, and that dang clow running around my house.

Hey Andrew, if the 7th gen Celica wheels will fit your car, all 5 lug FWD Celica wheels will fit. It's the basic 5x100 pattern. You could probably make a brace for pretty cheap too if you really wanted too. Go to Lowes and start hunting. That's were I get a lot of my car parts.
