OK, without any event to discuss, the January issue of RM is going to be nearly pointless. I'd love to have some people submit some articles. Since we're hashing out the run group situation, I'd love to have a couple of people do a pro and con thing, as we did with the points back in March 04 (http://swvrscca.org/RichMixture/Mar04.pdf). Maybe the two people Scott knows about would send me something?
I need to get the next issue to the printer either Friday or next Monday - please lemme know!

Jon,
I have started on an article on the event that was meant to be. The Deep Freeze that was frozen out and those intrepid few that showed up with hopes of some winter fun. Can I finish it up Sat. morning and email it to you?

Jon, could we use some of the forum content??? Lately we had a ton of discussions going on and some of it could find its way to the RM....

You can use a recent skidpad article that I wrote for RacetrackDB.com. I only ask that you give the website a credit near the title of the article and mention that the spreadsheet can be found on the website.

Luke - Saturday will be fine, thanks.
Robbie - I'll take a look at that and see if we have room, thanks.
Marteen - I wouldn't mind if the people who have posted thoughts reworked them into something a little more coherent, if they want to do that. I suppose I could so a "voices of the SWVR" segment.

In This Corner!..........
As a regular RM column, e.g., an overview on corner working, i.e., equipment, comportment, benefits, etc. And a comment from various corner workers from the last event, or at least a comment ABOUT a corner or corner worker from the last event.
Perhaps if it was highlighted as the important element of this sport that it is, instead of the dreaded anathema it has seemingly become, people might be more willing to work corners.
Personally, I have experienced enough corner working in my short time with SWVRSCCA to determine it as unkempt as the trailer. Rarely is there proper equipment, communicators, flags, fire extinguishers, etc. It is a haphazard hodgepodge, bereft of respect. People should WANT to work corners. But as it presently exists it is an ignominious, anonymous, thankless obstacle to avoid being shoved upon them.
I suggest a corner LOG, its elements to be detailed later. It would be signed by the working member, with time in and out, for one thing, and corner events such as cones, off courses, etc. simply marked. If determined worthy the list could be included in the above mentioned RM monthly column.
Thoughts on a very snowy Thursday.........:)

Sounds like a good idea to me.
Would we have room in RM for Formula 1 updates? :D

Take 2 - without a February event, again there's not a whole lot to put in RM. If there's anythying you've been wanting to say, get of your chest, etc., now's your chance. I'll need any submissions by Sunday at the latest in order to get the new issue out next week.
Thanks!

I will try to modify my F1 post to be less subjective and more up-to-date.

some of this is less than accurate. this is a public forum, while the feedback is appreciated it suggests that we don't run a safe event.
-the trailer is hodgepodge and hazardous
(stacked equipment in a trailer on a highway shifts wherever it wants. how else do you expect to fit a thousand lbs of stuff in a trailer, offer some guidance on loading the trailer when it's being packed next time, we'll more than welcome it. no injuries yet from the trailer and we certainly don't want any)
-Rarely is there proper equipment, communicators, flags, fire extinguishers
(we are continually buying radios because people walk-off with them, we just bought new flags mid season, and the fire extinguishers were just inspected and filled as needed early season to meet OSHA's standards)
i'll also note that you have never brought these issues up to me as a board member. keep in mind this is a purely volunteer organization.

As a relative newcomer, I have been impressed by the way the trailer is organized. To be sure, it may be a bit messy, but we have not had any trouble preparing for events. With the proper help, everything gets put away properly and in a timely fashion. Safety always seems to be a primary concern. One can always improve, but I have have not felt that I was put in a dangerous situation during any of the events. I did, on one ocassion, threaten the timer during a fun run, but that was entirely my fault and no human was threatend. I think we all learned a lesson about proper placement of the finish line timer that day. Hopefully, my experience will prevent another occurance, however we must keep in mind that there are always new people who might make poor decisions due to inexperience. One must always plan for safety with that in mind.

Jon,
Sorry I don't have anything for the Feb. RM. I do plan on attending the Evo School at Beaver Run this spring, so I will give a complete report on that event from a novice view. I can't attend our school because of a scheduling conflict.

Good points Nate! Just for the record, the trailer was just organized..better than it was thanks to Caleb taking the initiative. We made sure everything is organized and fastened properly so things don't shift during transport.
AFAIK there has never been any problems with the trailer. There is a certain way things go in and there are always people at the events that know where things go.
As far as other concerns go and as Nate mentioned, this is a volunteer organization that complies with the rules of the SCCA. If you have a problem or a concern pleaseE do not hesitate to attend any of the membership meetings and voice your concerns and opinions.
I think some of this should definitelly find its way to the RM...didn't mean to repeat what you said Nate, just wanted to add a couple of things... ;)
