I see in stock form I'm in GS. I plan to replace the wheels with what I believe are wider than original size, 15x8 vs 15x7 wrapped with R888's. Also want to add H&R race springs and not much else.
Where can I get clarification on where I would be classed and what mods make what? I saw an older .pdf file somewhere but can't seem to find it now. Thanks

Looks like FSP.
Or ST with 7.5" wheels and 140 treadwear tires.

Is there a secret decoder ring for that page? How am I supposed to read it with modifications, for future reference?
Thanks

I hope you run FSP! So far its just my Neon & the Prius guys who run in this class. We'd love to have ya! :)

I know, it's a mess.
For the mods you listed, you'd be interested in the following:

Classing: FSP, Page 183
ST Rules: Page 83 (Section 14.3, 14.4, and 14.3)
Classing: ST, Page 175

Thanks for your help buddy. This event I might run completely stock just to get a feel for the car and see what I break. :) Plus my wheels are on back order.

Are those R-comps or "street" tires (treadwear of 140 or over)? If they're not R-comps, you can run in either FSP or ST. R-comps = FSP onlyl.

I believe they are an R-compound tire.
So what's my mod limits in FSP? Springs? Brakes matter? Mods to ECU, intake, exhaust?

It's in the rules (http://www.scca.org/documents/2011%2...lo%20Rules.pdf). For Street Prepared you can do everything allowed in Stock p. (71-79) and what's laid out in Street Prepared (p. 91-106). If it's not allowed in those pages, you can't do it.

I've asked around and looked a little deeper into classing. I believe, someone correct me, but as of now I only have a drop in filter, and I should be in GS. With addition of springs later that would put me in DSP.
Having said that, can I choose to run in DSP before adding suspension work and cont there once the work is done in order to accumulate points?

yea, I think you're right about belonging in DSP instead of FSP http://www.sccaforums.com/forums/forumid/20/postid/263742/scope/posts
As for running in DSP before you have the mods for it.. yes, you can.

I'm not really familiar with BMW - Is this 318is 16v? per the classification list - - D/SP - 3 Series (16v, NOC), F/SP - 318i (NOC). I'm not sure which class is more appropriate. It is acceptable to enter a higher class in anticipation of additional changes that would place the car in the higher class. Street Prepared classes essentially allow bolt-on parts - no internal engine mods.

Yes it's a 1991 318is with the 1.8 16v. Guy I spoke with does some work and competing on the national level and he told me that this particular car was of some concern a few years ago and it seems they never resolved the issue...what ever that may be (I assume it's due the hp and tq advantage over the 318i). I see everything from GS to DSP. I think I'll enter DSP in anticipation of race springs next month.
And the car will be completely stock with stock size rims and stock LSD.

Yup. That's what I've been doing in STU this season, while I await the delivery of suspension bits (1/2 way there!).

I think I'll just start and stay in DSP to avoid any dispute.

Need some modifying classification help. I need to know what all I can modify to stay in DSP. Strut braces, sway bars, ... ECU upgrade, Catback Exhaust, ...?

Alright, lets see:
Sway Bars: Go for it
Substitution, addition, or removal of any anti-roll bar(s) is permitted.
Bushing material, method of attachment, and locating points are unrestricted.
Catback: Go for it.
Exhaust manifolds and muffler systems are free, except that they
must be quiet and terminate behind the driver.
Strut Brace: Go for it.
Strut bars (per Section 12) are permitted with all types of suspensions,
subject to the following constraints:
1. A two-point strut bar may be added, removed, modified, or substituted,
but only with another two-point strut bar.
2. A triangulated (3-point) strut bar may be removed, modified, or
substituted; substitution may be with either a triangulated or a twopoint
strut bar. The connection to the chassis (i.e., firewall, bulkhead,
etc) must be in the standard location.
3. Lower suspension braces must be attached to the lower suspension
pickup point locations on the chassis within two inches (2”,
50.8 mm) in any direction of the actual suspension attachment to
the chassis.
4. Except for standard parts, no connections to other componenets
are permitted.
ECU: I'm pretty sure this is legal, but you better double check with someone else first.
Alternate computer control modules may be used whenever an
equivalent change to the conventional system is allowed. For example,
alternate computer module control of ignition settings or fuel
injection is allowed.

I think your car is a great candidate for a nice Street Mod style straight 6cyl swap Tony... :) Thanks for the fun runs, it is a hoot to drive! Thanks!!!

Do it!!!
At least I hope you do...that would be one heck of a SM car! The swap should be fairly straight forward too...just saying...:)
