We lost one of our members over the weekend.
John Metzger died due to a racing accident at Nelson Ledges. He ran in CSR and crashed during the race. He was a great man and good friend. My heart goes out to family and friends. He will be missed.

They need to repave that track. Extremely bumpy. It is near where my parents live, so I took the Neon there for one of their "fun days" in 2009, basically an open track day - if you have $120 and a helmet you can run the track from 10 am to 4 pm. A stock Neon isn't exactly a warp speed machine, but I still had trouble pushing the limit in some places. Sort of hard to run on the edge of adhesion when taking a corner that feels like rumble strips. Once I came out of a turn onto the back stretch and found 3 deer standing in front of me. Another lap I had a cat jump across the track in front of me. It was sort of like being in an arcade game. At the time I wondered how they could run door to door under competition conditions at that bumpy arcade. Sadly, I don't have to wonder anymore. Very, very, sad.

Then just don't say it. Don't announce that you're holding back out of "respect," thus hinting that something nefarious took place.

I had the honor of meeting John at one of our events to give him some awards that were sent to me by the Great Lakes Division. My thoughts are with his family.

Our condolences go out to John's family and friends. A very sad day indeed.
Our focus is on remembering John and his family in our prayers.

We were there.
Tim: The pavement was not the issue.
Jonathan: Sean is right, we will also withold any comments at this point, as the focus is on mourning Johns passing.
Again, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

WV_Racer, I think Jon's point was that this is the condolences thread, not the conspiracy thread or the "how it happened" thread. In other words, don't come in saying "our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, BUT..." if there's something else to the story that we need to know, then by all means start a new thread for it. However, here is not the place, and although neither of you ACTUALLY said your complaints, you implied that there's more to the story but that it would hurt someone to say it...which means you should never imply it in the first place because it does nothing for those of us who don't know, but only hurts those involved who are already aware of the situation (aka family, friends) by bringing up fresh wounds.

Although I can't say for sure whether we ever met John, our hearts go out to his friends and family. We're headed to Aprils grandfather's viewing in a couple hours, so we share your grief.
