I drove the Vette Thursday to a doctors apt, half way to Charleston, the front brake were sqeeking really bad, sounded like the rotors were on a lathe. I went straight to Joe Holland, checked the rotors, looked fine, check the pads, have plenty of pad left, I pulled out after checking to see if they had a set in stock (they did not), so on to the doc apt, no noise, even when braking, after the appointment, they started sqeeking really bad, even at 70 mph, and really got bad while braking. Got home, pulled the wheels, and calipers, thinking gravel may have be between the rotor and calliper, no luck. So I am stuck on what to do, maybe the pads have been over heated? they looked ok. BTW a set of OEM fromt pads are $240.00 buck, I will be buying aftermarket. anyone have any ideas?. I did not pull the rear, I feel positive the problem is in the front.
Looked at teh rotors today, they seem a little darker than normal. I hope the calipers are not sticking, I do not think so, the wheel/rotors spin easy, no pull on the front

Looks like that is a common issue with your car. From what I read quite a few people had luck by doing three or so decelerations from about 70 mph down to about 15 mph, in effect re-bedding the pads. They are saying this will shut them up for a decent amount of time.

Chuck, I heard the squealing at the last event when you were pulling out from the grid...what pads are you running? If stock there is something odd about that. Most performance pads make some sort of noise but the stockers should be pretty quiet.
Talk to Sam Strano at Strano Performance. Tell him I sent ya... :D

They might be glazed. Have them turned, or at least sand them with 1500 grit, then re-bed the pads as Dustin suggested.

I have had occasion where it looks okay because from the outside because only the inside pad was dragging.
Another issue is the rubber brake lines swell from age and moisture on the inside, while looking fine from the outside. With a narrower diameter, the fluid doesn't want to release completely and let the pads off the rotor when you take your foot off the break. When you hear it squealing, pull off, find a mild incline, stop, put it in neutral, and see if it will barely roll on its own or if something is dragging a bit.
That's all the Holiday Inn Express advice I can give. I don't have to deal with brakes much. You have to go fast to need to slow down, if you know what I mean.

Swedish Meatball might have some insight on this. He is a certified Vette mechanic
