I had no idea this track even existed! I was trolling around here and stumbled across a video here.
What do I need to do in order to race there in the spring? I would love to give it a shot! Any and all information that you have on this would be greatly appreciated.

A) atleast 2 prior events
B) SCCA/SWVRSCCA member in good standing
Ona is not a regular event for us, this year was a rare chance that we got to use their track. It is also a higher risk event and not for a novice, if the club decides to run again at Ona next year the same rules will likely apply. I recommend that you start attending the autoxes next year.

Does the home page have all the info for joining the WVSCC? Do I have to attend meetings, etc? I do not have a lot of free time with my job.

You don't have to be a member to autox with us.
Come down to Riverside on the third Sunday of every month (except December and unless otherwise notified) with your money ($22), grab a loaner helmet and go racing. Oh, and make sure your car is safe and empty of anything that can fly around.
Autox is not for everyone, some have done one event realized its not for them and quit. Paying $70 for an annual SCCA membership would be a waste if you only did a handful of events per year.
You don't have to attend meetings, for instance I've attended 1 meeting in the last 3 years because its hard for me to go there being 170 miles away.
And yes the home page/links section has everything you need to know in order to go racing.

I had a lot of fun racing at Mid-Ohio so I think I would like it.
My only concern is the cones look really confusing in the videos at certian "tracks/parking lots". I would hate to run my first time mowing them down and missing half the course, lol. I assume that the cones on their sides direct you in what direction to drive right?
I have my winter tires/rims on the car right now so it will be spring before I want to give it a shot. I may run up just to watch so maybe I can learn a few things.

Autox teaches you to look waaaay ahead, if you are seeing a sea of cones you aren't looking ahead. When you watch the videos, look ahead into the distance and picture where you are going to go before you get there. Also, walking the course is critical in remembering where you are going to go. Per national rules we chalk the side of the course, I've run with regions that don't and its a lot trickier.
You can run on your winter tires, come to the event in January and just run. Seriously, even if you got some fresh 710s Davis/Martin/Robbie would still kick your butt.

Do you guys ever have experienced drivers ride with newbies to autox to help them run the course the first time?
Is it best to make your first run slow so you learn wtf you are doing then try a little faster each time?

Yes to both...
Jason Vehige (JasonV) is typically the novice handler, and all of us veterans will be glad to ride shot gun. In fact some veterans take others along with them just to get more feedback.
Slow if fast in autox, being smooth and slow is typically faster than being banzai and making mistakes. As you gain more experience your 4-5 runs are typically within 10ths of each other. But for most of us noobies and semi noobies the first run and the fastest run is usually 3-4 seconds apart in time.

Everytime you get on here, I'm impressed by your curiosity and enthusiasm, but I cannot understand why you haven't shown up yet. You may end up last on your first event, but by now, you'd be very hard to beat for most of us. You have a capable car, and apparently the ability to drive, so just come out, start out slow like we all did, have people ride with you, and you'll be flying in no time.

If we have to call you there is something wrong....most of our members would pan their wedding around autocross...I know Troy has...somewhat... And I know I will....;) Hope to see you down here in January to start the year right... :drive:

Ok if you say so .....
Get your ass up and go to the next event!!!! Ask off work now!!!
I have a fulltime and part time job and still have managed to get to every event since I started Feb of this past year. All it takes is one event.
Id like to see what another s/c can do, and my buddy just got his Tirburon and is really wanting the Alpine charger. So show up, learn to drive your car, show it off a little bit, etc, etc.
Oh btw, all seasons prob wont matter too much until spring. Unfortunitly thats what im running and it sucks, but dont worry about it. If you must bring your summer tires to the event like I did for a while.
