We may be looking to move to the Cross Lanes area sometime this year. Not sure about buying or renting, may rent to get to know the area and keep more of an open idea about the area before committing to buying. Any info on elementary schools, daycares, or what areas better/worse? May venture outside of CL a little but stay close.

With the wife being an RN in south charleston, myself in Sissonville, and my oldest daughter on a competition gymnastics team in Cross lanes seems we are never home. Always on the road going somewhere.

I spent my first 22 years growing up there but can't really help on the schools. Been a while since I was elementary school. Lake Chaweva was a cool place to grow up though. Its a gated community but not stuck up and the home owners association doesn't really do anything other than keep up the lake property so you don't have to worry about having a certain color drapes or anything :).

If you are going to look at places, take the time to drive from there in the morning and drive to there in the afternoon. That's what convinced me not to live in Teays Valley if I was working in Chucktown. Anywhere you pick to live. I think for Cross Lanes you will find a traffic nightmare during business hours. Move to South Charleston. Just as close to Sissonville. Hopefully your trips into Cross Lanes for you daughter will be at non -peak hours.

I am sure the Cross Lanes people will bash me, but its just one opinion, so collect a bunch more and then form your own. I just happen to be a traffic phobic. I even panic in construction areas and hit orange cones.

I've lived in Cross Lanes for over 30 years. It's not so bad and traffic is better (not non-existent) than it was in the past. The third lane to Doc Bailey Road has helped. True - peak hours kinda suck, but there is more than one way in and out. When I worked in So Chas. I always went through N . Charleston to avoid the traffic. It works pretty well in the evening also. Point Harmony School was pretty good when my kids went there. Somehow they both grew up and became productive adults and I didn't have to bail either out of jail; but that has more to do with parenting than schools.

Been out here on Lake Chaweva for 7+ years, no gov't, no crime and it takes me 7 minutes to get to my house from 64 in 5 o'clock traffic. 10-15 minutes to Charleston, 15-20 to Tuppers Creek. Can't help with schools or daycares(no kids) but I wouldn't hesitate to raise 'em here. Call me if you wanna come look around out here.

Unfortunately gymnastics hours are 4;30-6:00 twice a week for now then three times a week starting next competition season. Traffic isnt too bad from what i've seen, we come from Sissonville side around 4-4:30 and go beside of Harbor Freight where here class is at.

Brian, where is Lake Chaweva at? From what i've heard Point Harmony is the better of the elementarys

Ok, we've looked at a few houses and havent really found anything we really want so instead of being in a hurry we've decided to rent. Looked at a few townhouses, man is rent higher than most house payments. Must be the location. Seven hundred to a grand is the going rate. Ripley is much cheaper.

But how about daycares. Jack you know of any in the area besides the Y and PJ's? Asking you since you live there and raised children there.
