Well, one of April's journals on her crankshaft is slightly tapered, and theo nly thing I know of that can be done is to have it machined. To remove the crank, you have to remove the engine, which I don't have the resources to do (I have the car up on two spare tire jacks right now  ). Is there any other way to do this? Is there a shop/mechanic in the area that could do this while the engine is in the car?

Troy, simple answer is no...there is no way to do this in the car...it might not even be worth the effort to do it period.... New crankshaft or new engine would be the answer.... really sorry to give you this news...
PS: The crankshaft can be reground and thicker bearings used, but all this will cost money and time...

The "taper" is actually a very small lip at the edge of the bearing, and the rest of the journal seems to be fine.

I suppose it could be a swap project lol.

Troy, it is the crankshaft itself that is tapered correct? If that is the case then it's a done deal...you will chew up a new bearing in no time if you put a new one in... I really wish there was something that could be done...and there is but it'll take time and money... :?

I would start watching ebay for a motor and send Santa a note for a Ecotech with decent miles.
I got my motor for $700 shipped.
