a complete drivetrain from an '05 MINI Cooper S, minus a few differential gears and bits of differential housing.

This photo was taken a few weeks ago when I was helping my friend Dave put in a low milage used gearbox. MINI is too stupid to figure out that their (or more correctly Getrag's) differential failed and sent bits both into the clutch bellhousing and out the bottom of the case as opposed to their preferred story that the clutch failed and sent parts flying through the case thus causing said diff failure. Funny how the clutch was in perfect condition when we took it apart. Awfully convenient how the clutch is a wear and tear item and thus any failure or related damage is the owner's problem.

There is absolutely no space in that engine bay.Possibly even worse than a 3rd gen Rx7.

The good part is that MINI made removal of the drivetrain pretty easy. One fuel line, two vacuum lines, one harness connector, and a ground strap and that's it. The engine wire harness stays in place because the ecu is in the engine bay.

You take off the front bumper and radiator, drop the suspension subframe, and out comes the motor.

You should talk JAson to putting that into his KART.

The absolute tighest engine bay I've ever seen would probably have to be in a PT Cruiser Turbo. There are a lot of vans and such out there, too, that are also unbelievably tight.
