Does anyone have a cylinder bore gauge? And a larger micrometer to measure piston diameter? I will pay someone to borrow this for one evening...

I have a set of outside micrometers you can use the inside mics I don't have though.

Chris, so you have the C-Clamp style micrometer but not the bore gauge, correct? Do you think I could borrow it sometime? I only need it for an evening...have about 15 pistons to choose from and need to measure them to fit my existing cylinders.... I did my last rebuild with a dial caliper but it would be much more accurate with a micrometer...

Yes, that is correct. Yes, anytime. You can keep as long as you need it, it's not something I use everyday.
I believe you should borrow it as opposed to using calipers.
Just let me know when you are ready for it, I'll dig it out. :D If I remember correctly, it goes to 4.75" or 4.875". Can't remember, I haven't had to go that big yet...
Hmmm....a 2.5L SOHC w/ a 120.65 mm Bore....Hmmmm
Be more like a 3.0L SOHC or larger then now wouldn' it?

Great, thank you Chris! I might call you tonight...
The cyl. bore on the celica is 86mm or little less than 3.5 inches...

Cough it up Marteen....

You are working on a new V-15 quin-turbo engine with 900hp and 1300tq, weighing only 200lbs.

Don't be teasing like this Davis... If the celi is down to about 2850lbs and makes about 310hp I'll be very, very happy... :drive:

Chris, you can drive the CRX anytime you want... Trust me, you don't want to drive the celi, anyone who has ever driven that thing has been very disapointed....it is a very, very weird car to drive to say the least...;)

I tell you what. The next time we have a Mustang day at the AutoX, you and I should go rent one of those Hertz GTs and put some stickies on it and run it.... Waddya think...ehh??

Yeech, I don't think so.

Judging by my dad's Elantra, Hyundai still has a lot to learn with respect to suspension tuning. That thing wallows like an early 80's Caddy. The rear shocks are so soft the ass end bounces all over.

The engine's not bad however. That 2.0 Beta motor runs good.

So what am I not getting about this picture? If the engine's never been bored then you should be using standard diameter pistons right? Usually the bore gauge is only needed to see if the cylinders require boring due to being worn oval. I understand you've been running lots of boost but I'm thinking that unless that engine has high milage or Toyota designed something wrong (doubtful) then the bores should be ok. Barring damage due to the broken rings of course.

I was just kidding about the Elantra Roy... Mustangs are actually very cool cars that I have great respect for....Just look at Dan Comb or Bryan Price's cars...and Marcell's car... very cool!

Anyway, whenever I build something like this, I always double check and re-check all the clearances no matter what is stamped on the bloc or the piston... With toyota you can be as accurate as you want to be...three different piston sizes and within those sizes they have more sizes...1a, 1b, 1c, 1d....though 3c, 3d....I am sure you know this... although I never quite understood the letters they are within the range, but different in size...
I know I am pretty obsessive about this, the book says to match the piston number with the number stamped on the block and that's it.... though on my last build I used a number 2 piston in a number 1 stamped cylinder....and it mic'ed perfect that way... This block only has about 50k on it so I would say the wear is minimal. I could still see original hone marks on it when I rebuilt it first...

...or Jason Norton, Jimmy Mason, Chris Durbin's car...

I've also got some Micrometers, but I don't know if either's big enough.

Of course..plenty of mustangs in our region....
