Why is Corvette used in the form of a manufacturer in this article? Why list every other car by it's manufacturer and not the Chevrolets? Did Chevy sell or spin off "Corvette"? Just curious.

Would you want to be associated with GM?

Interesting view point. However, from the opposite side, wouldn't GM want to get the press about this production based race car? Dodge was mentioned by their name, not "Viper".
It just seemed odd to me.

IIRC, in Europe (and perhaps everywhere but the US), "Corvette" is its own marque, separate from Chevy.
As for ALMS's new structure - if they want spec "prototypes," why not just merge with GrandAm and be done with it?

Because the Grand Am proto's are criminally ugly!

To the best of my limited knowledge, Corvette is still the property of GM. I have read a number of articles proporting that GM will continue the Corvette - at least for now. They continue to intorduce "new" models - aka Grand Sport for 2010.
