So they make one kind of all season tires for the wheels on my car...which are awful. I slip all over in the rain.

I've decided that for the places I have to go in the winter (think drives like heading to Moorefield over the mountains) I would like to get a set of winter tires for my car.

I have looked on tire rack and I have looked at so many, and read so many different reviews that I have NO CLUE what kind to buy...

Any thoughts? I may buy some different wheels too, so I wouldn't have to get tires to fit the 18 inch wheels...

Yup. Got a set for the Minivan(tm) last year and had no problems at all with the snow.

Besides a "winter" tire, from my understanding, narrow tires are best for snow.

My recomendation is something from Nokian's line up. We have 2 sets of Nokians Hakkapelitta tires in our household. The "All-Weather" WR series that my wife runs on year round. We also have a set of Hakka 2 snow tires for when the going gets rough.
The WR outperformed the Blizzak and some other snow tires in independent tests in Europe.
For an un-studded snow tire my pick is the RSX.
For a studded snow tire the Hakka 2.
Nokians are as expensive as Michilens, but are worth every penny. I drive all the way to Mason Town, just outside of Mo-town to get them.
