Just slide the radiator support out, put the long 6mm bumper bolts into the radiator support holes and slide the radiator straght out on the bumper bolts. Use the small torx bolts from up by the fender to hold it out. That way you dont have to disconnect any radiator, intercooler hoses, and ya dont have to mess with the condensor or headlights. Otherwise congrats on having the stones to tackle that project, most people wont.

Wow! I wish I possesed that level of fearlessness. Did you buy a shop manual? If not, what is your reference source for this project?

I dunno about Nate, but my automotive reference manual is located between the ears of that Roy Wendell character.

Yeah, I didn't, either, but was too ashamed to ask. :frown:

... to tackle that project, most people wont.

Been there - no fun. Checked with a couple of local garages first, but nobody wanted the job.

Done it the way rocketman described. In my case, the worst part was re-installing the front bumber assembly... definately a two-person job.

timing belt, tensioner, roller, water pump, and serp belt are done! thanks again caleb for the garage and the help!

was a pretty smooth job. certainly glad i did it myself.

scott, normally i just use internet write-ups and the factory manual, which is hard to find on paper now a days so the laptop ends up being the most used tool in the garage... amazing.

taking the entire front rad/fan/condenser support off only took us an extra 45 minutes and you get a much more room to work and a better drain on the rad.

odie, did you do it for a 3.0? nasty compared to the 1.8... eeek

Yep 3.0 - not a horribly difficult job, just eats up 2 full days.

Congrats Nate, you just saved a bunch of $$$!

That's exactly why I hate working on Audis/VWs.

LOL Brian has a secret love affair with all things german... it's the thought of working day after day on old Audi 5000 Turbos that get him extra excited!!

5 minute spark plug change though.

brian counters with "yeah, but i can swap the engine in my 2.5 in an hour"

i'm just glad it's done. i'm ready to travel to some events!
