Call on me if you need some random help. I have some AEM intake tubing you could have if you need it. I think it's a cold air intake from an Accord.

Are you still going to try to keep it stock classable?

It would run CSP, it has the 91 Si motor in it. Using the SP backdate/update we can run it there. CRXes make pretty darned good CSP cars, as long as a Miata or an IT trim car doesn't show up.

If you visit the link in my sig you'll find a wanted/need list. Currently we are desperately searching for a left side tail light and door panels. (They sell for 100+ on ebay!!!)

Sorry for stealing the thread.... I'll split it.

Correction...

The car will run STS2... the 88 and 91 Si motors are the same darn thing, except for the ECU. Since ECU is free in STS we can run it in STS2. Woo hoo!!!

IT prepped cars are not any issue for a proper CSP car ....

IT prepped cars are not any issue for a proper CSP car ....

Could you please explain further? I would think given IT allows more mods than CSP one would have a better advantage. Ofcourse, a road course setup is vastly different from an autox setup.

SentraWV

Does IT let you do more that SP? I thought the SP engine rules were a lot more lax than IT (tho' I certainly could be wrong).

I know we've had some IT and similar cars show up and run before that they seem to not have the right gear ratios for autox.

IT allows you to gut a car interior wise, albeit you have to be of a certain minimum weight. Who is to say that you can't gut the car to IT prep and remain below minimum weight and run SP.

IT/SP both allow intake, header, exhaust, computer, LSD, etc. The allowables are very similar to each other in terms of motor.

In the same vein one could bring a SS prepped car and run stock as long as they don't have a trunk kit. I have wondered which would be faster a well prepped stock car or the same car in SS prep.

I thought it was ruleset exclusive - either you run IT rules or SP rules, but you can't mix and match. So you'd have to run the IT min weight, if there was such a thing.

I doubt the SS car would do well against stock. The cage for the SS car adds weight and you can't do the shock/strut stuff you can in Stock with the SS car.

Having said that, I sometimes think that the best of all worlds would be an old SS car running in Stock that I could also use for track days. And all still street legal. :D

So Marteen has been hard at work... all the rust has been taken care of. Paint work should begin very shortly... yes the site isn't very up to date... partially because we haven't done much.

We got seats... a big thank you to Matt Kemper.

Still looking for a door panel and left rear tail light.

Marteen is trying to work through the brake issue.

We will probably do a write up soon for the RM, we haven't done a whole lot to have a monthly installment.

The CRX might make a few runs in the next month or so as we try to shake it down before the Challenge.

Would intake piping help you guys? I have an old AEM cold-air intake from an Accord (Maybe?) that I'd be glad to donate. The air filter sucks, though. No pun intended.

never know.. the honda fairy may find some things out there..

uh

not calling anyone a fairy.. but.. if the wings fit..

SeanB
06-26-2006, 11:59 PM
Things we need...

Door panels - the driver's side is completely worn
Tail light - driver's side one is cracked
Steering wheel - OEM or racing
Exhaust - maybe only the muffler... the rest of the piping looks good

Those are really the key items for right now.

We aren't sure what we need brakes wise and whether the original timing belt and water pump will work.

Troy... we got an intake... thanks for asking... we do appreciate it

Anyone that puts anything towards this will get a little sticker on the car with their name and we like car fairies... they bring nice things.

Thanks guys for the offers! Most of the dents and imperfections are out now, slowly getting to the final touch up phase and hopefully the rex will be painted in a few days. I just got a few more goodies for the Alltrac too.... Gotta love working on two cars at the same time.
Anyway, my neighbor has some paint leftover from his project so we'll get that at a disount price of $70. (did I mention that red paint is the most expensive and would cost at least $140 otherwise....just for the base coat, nothing else)
We definitelly need the tail light and a steering wheel.... might have to look around ebay... Also, the exhaust needs a whole rear section but I am sure Toppings can take care of that for a few dollars...
Anybody wants to donate clear coat? Reducers? Darker sealer? Sand paper? We need it all...
Sean, I will have some new receipts to put up on the site...

Oh yeah...we need a decent muffler!!! Definitelly not a coffee can...

Jason V
06-28-2006, 10:03 AM
The CSP car is better than the IT car in every way... with no cage, fire system ect ect.. a proper CSP car will be lighter or no heavier than the IT car... IT wheel width limits allow the CSP car to have much wider tires..... 13x9s for csp... 7 inch is max for IT...... SP has totaly open intake and exhaust rules (can you say electomotive tech 3 with individual TBs).... IT has to have near stock injection... I know of a CSP first Gen CRX that weighs less than 1700 pounds... also the IT car has to meet minimum weight to be SP legal.... as the IT car has to be in full compliance with the IT ruleset.. you cannot use both rules... AKA IT prepp with SP wheels is a no go... more than anything it is the wheels and tires!!!

SeanB
06-28-2006, 06:03 PM
So we now need a left rear wheel hub assembly... Marteen scored one for $35 something.

Got a taillight from an 89 for $30... thats not cheap... but cheaper than what most went on ebay.

About $90 on sandpaper, respirator, primer... still gotta buy reducer and clear coat.

Roy is selling us an old muffler for $20, going to bid on a heater control panel on ebay.

Still gotta find out what all is needed brakes wise, might need a new timing belt/waterpump.

So yeah we are basically going to the poor house fast.

SeanB
06-29-2006, 05:42 PM

It's called the "Bling Bling Red" ...it's actually a mix of two quarts of light red, some purple tint and a little over a pint of black for that deep red color.
Normally these bumpers would be tossed but hopefully they'll look ok for our project. Today is the D Day for the body paint... Sean and I will be at my house tomorrow putting some of the rex together so anybody who wants to hang out or maybe even help is welcome to come up. Free hotdogs and drinks...

gtfour77
07-27-2006, 07:12 PM
Why would they normally be tossed?

Just because they were so rough to begin with, paint peeling, indentations and many other imperfections...it would be more cost-effective to replace them as the new ones would not take any time to prep. But since our funds are limited, I decided I can donate some time... ( I was talking from a body shop perspective)

You won't find much in CRX parts on car-parts.com...they are getting too old. I assume you are looking for black interior pieces...? I know of a CRX in a junkyard that has most if not all the interior, but I think it's blue. There is also a 90-91 Si sitting in a junkyard in P-burg but most of it is missing and I haven't seen it in person except from a distance.

What kind of prices are you looking for on those pieces?

SeanB
08-03-2006, 05:33 PM
Color doesn't matter for the plastic pieces... we can repaint if need be.

Price... the cheaper the better... we are starting to get to the point where we don't have enough $$$ left.

I was only hundred miles off! :? Dave Bruce sent me the information.

Dave Sherman. I'm not sure that the business actually has a name....
He flies pretty low to stay below Ohio's EPA radar ;^).
He's out behind Proctorville. From Rt. 7 East in Proctorville, turn left
on Rt. 775. Go 13 miles and turn right on County Rd. 2 (actually, you go
straight... CR 2 meets 775 in a curve). Go exactly 4 miles on CR 2 and
you'll see Dave's place on the right. It's an old school with a couple
of hundred Hondas sitting around it.

Dave's phone number is: 1992-346 Area Code (047) Inverted to keep him from being harassed.

Hope he can help you!

SeanB
08-30-2006, 05:24 PM
Car held up well after the Cure autox, consensus is that she might be a long term project. The car be very competitive in CSP without spending a whole ot of money.

Current issues are brakes, it seems towards the tail end of a run the brakes would start getting a little iffy. We got some used rotors that we will use for now, possibly changing to new ones if need be. We will have some brand new Hawk HP Plus pads by the next event.

The tires are gigantinormous and we have a fender rub, probably need to roll the fender or something. We were very happy with the level of grip the tires had even in the wet, and the dry handling was amazing to say the least. Not bad for road race compound tires.

Still a bunch of little odds and ends to get, Marteen is redoing some of the paint work to make it a little more interesting.

Lots of work still to be done before we leave....new seat, rest of the interior, door mouldings, swvr scca stickers, names, alignment and such....Hope the weather works out and we'll have a comfortable trip to Fl...oh yeah, no heat or a/c.....so we're hoping for 70 degree weather...fingers crossed...
Hopefully we'll be able to fix the heat, probably just a mouse or rat stuck in the ducting... I guess my garage cat can only go so far...

How are you allowed to have sponsors? I thought the car was just supposed to cost 2006 bucks. I'm a little confused. I've got a magnet for you if you have room left. What do you want for a little fender room?

You can have sponsors... no rules against it.

Concept of a sponsor is someone who gets you a hard to find part of helps out... and believe me we've had both.

We'll throw a magnet on there... how do we get it from you? Or if you send us an image we can print our down. In return can I get a ride in the EVO...

Well, another day in paradise has gone by like a tide of the Atlantic Ocean.... We call it paradise because only in paradise can you eat ice cream in shorts at the end of October at 10 pm....We hear it's nice and warm in Charleston....or is it a misinformation????
Anyway, just to update you guys on the happenings here in the sunny state, we did absolutely nothing today...well we did something but nothing of great importance... :D
Found a really strange sign at a Subway in Orlando which made us eat really fast and double check the locking mechanism on the CRX....
The plan for tomorrow is to relax some more and finally start prepping the CRX for the big day on Friday... We'll probably find some bikini car wash and enjoy the scenery.... Oh yeah, what happens in Florida, stays in Florida so no more details will be revealed....
Almost forgot, the first order of business in the morning will be a visit to the GRM headquarters about 80 miles north of here (Palm Bay)... we'll post pictures as soon as we can...;)
Enjoy these few snaps from today and we'll report back tomorrow.

Its over... atleast the racing part.

Drag racing today... we did a 15.9 for our best time. (Martin set it, while I did a 16.0.) I had a 0.1 reaction time while Martin had a 0.05 reaction time.

drag racing ?

no autoxing ?? you guys would kill on the autox..

SeanB
10-30-2006, 09:36 PM
It was autox + drag race + car show.

You cannot win this event with a street car or autox car, the cars that won the autox portion would end up in DM or some prepared class. They were gutted, seam welded, swapped, boosted monsters that would get eaten alive at an average autox. The drag cars were the same with big motors and wheelie bars that couldn't turn worth anything. The competition is a dream come true for people who want to engineer monsters, not for your average run of the mill street car.

Its unlikely we will return next year, if we do it will be with a team of drivers with a dedicated car on a trailer and one person running autox.

ShortysTRM

So you couldn't win the autocross portion in an autocross car, but the cars that won would get eaten alive at an average autocross..? I'm confused. I'm assuming you meant that they were overpowered drag-prepped cars?

That's a heck of a good showing for the first shot ever, especially given the competition. Good job, guys.

SeanB
10-30-2006, 09:52 PM
What I said wasn't a mistake.

The cars that won the autox portion were vastly modified cars, bare shells with a motor, lexan windows, etc. Cars that would get thrown into the deep end in your standard autox where they would face even more developed cars. There were no classes at the Challenge, it was all based on raw time. So our CSP legal CRX was up against say a DM Civic or AM Locost... you get the point.

ShortysTRM
10-30-2006, 09:56 PM
Ahhhhhhhhh. So, relative to other ~$2000 cars, they were monsters, but compared to other cars in their SCCA classes, they wouldn't stand a chance. Gotcha.

Yep... exactly as you said.

Both Marteen and I can't see ourselves spending money on this next year since the car that will be a serious competitor won't be good for anything else.

ShortysTRM
10-30-2006, 10:20 PM
the car that will be a serious competitor won't be good for anything else.

Sure it will...the $2008 challenge lol.

Regardless, I'm sure this year's experience was worth the trouble.

gtfour77
11-02-2006, 09:39 AM
We had fun and I guess that's all that matters. The car had a great potential in the autocross portion but we both did really poorly on it as the course was a little confusing at one point and we only had a couple of runs each. People that did well drove all 5 runs and could squeeze a lot more out of the autox.... That said, if we ever do this again, which I am sure we will....we'll have dedicated drivers for each of the events.... We participated this year, next time we will compete!
