OK, they decided to upgrade my computer at work overnight, so I've now got one with a modern version of WinXP Pro. All nice and good, except the old Windows CD player has apparently gone the way of the Dodo, with all music playback going through Media Player. Does anybody know of a good free CD player program for Windows?

I really liked the old one - Media Player outputs the CD data via the .wav pathway, so it silences anything else if I'm playing a CD. The "CD Player" volume slider is still there, however.

Thanks,

You can acctually revert back to an older windows media player skin. Now depending how old you machine was, and if in fact the cd player software you were useing was windows media player or not it may be different. Click view - then skin chooser and you can display the various skins they have, and they include the "older" versions as well.

Hope that helps

CD player was a seperate program. I'm really not sure how to help you. You can use WMP to rip the files from the CD then play them back. At least that way it doesn't mute other sounds.
