I thought I'd tell you about a little contest we're running over at RacetrackDB.com. I hope you guys don't consider this spam.

Link to the site: www.racetrackdb.com

RacetrackDB.com is having a referral contest. It's simple... refer the most people and win a prize. Here's how it works. You place links to our site anywhere you want and we track who clicks your links. You must have a RacetrackDB.com user account in order to play. To sign up for an account, click here.

This is the link format:

http://www.racetrackdb.com/?username=membername (change "membername" to your RacetrackDB.com username)

For example, I would use:

http://www.racetrackdb.com/?username=RobbieNelson

If you want to put the link in a forum signature, use the following format:

{url=http://www.racetrackdb.com/?username=RobbieNelson}RacetrackDB.com{/url} (replace squigly brackets with square brackets)

Prizes:
1st place $100 Gift Certificate at raceshopper.com
2nd place $75 Gift Certificate at raceshopper.com
3rd place $25 Gift Certificate at raceshopper.com

Note that we will be tracking unique hits via your link. If you sit at your desk and keep clicking your link, it won't do you any good. Don't try to cheat the system!

Make sure you use your correct member name with all of you links to prevent errors in our tracking system.

You can see where you stand by visiting the following link: Referral Scoreboard (http://www.racetrackdb.com/rtdb_referral_list.php)

The contest will start on November 18th @ 9:00PM EST and end December 29th at 9:00PM EST. We will reset the counter system at the start time. The counter system will stop counting at the stop time.

I'm surprised that no one is participating in this contest. Would tirerack.com gift certificates make it more appealing? I'm just a little confused. I thought this would be a hit.

I might do it, but there's no way to track who goes to your site after seeing it in a video.

I'm not following you here? Please explain.

Since this is all about how many people click a link, I wouldn't stand much of a chance. During months when I actually produce and post a video, I get about 2000 "unique visitors" (different IP addresses), but as far as I know, they're mostly people who watched the video from a link posted on a forum. If they were to see your web address in the video and follow it to your site, there's no way for you to track where they were "linked" from. I'd put one on my site, but not a lot of people check the site on a regular basis, so it wouldn't do much good.

Also, until I can afford a decent car and a track day, I'm autocross only. If I remember correctly, there's not much emphasis on autocross on your site.

Seems someone found a way to cheat our referral system. I won't reveal how it's done, but lets just say that it's fairly easy. I hate to do it, but we're going to have to cancel the contest.

We do intend to give away the gift certificates. I'm open to suggestions to a contest to promote the site. What do you guys want?

Again, sorry we had to cancel the contest.

You were leading by far untill I logged on yesterday and saw 44 guest visitors at the same time. Someone was using a proxy anonomizer to fool the system. Like I said, we WANT to have a contest to drive visitors our way with prizes of course. This was a very good idea, I just can't think of a way to do it and not have cheaters. I'm open to suggestion.
