OK, since we're done with MOVRA for this year and have some idea of what the facility is like and (hopefully) will get to go back, what changes/improvements would people like to see next time out? Weather, obviously, but I'm thinking about things that we mere mortals can control.

List 'em here and we'll have an easy reference point when planning next time.

A: More cones, The more we have the more I'll hit... :D
Seriously, I saw that not many cones were left, maybe a handful. If we made the course any longer we will need more cones. I have an idea of how to deal with wind as well, use two cones. One inside the other. The increase in mass from the second cones applied to the same footprint may keep them in place. This will also keep the trailer from collecting even more stuff that we would rarely have to use and stuff that would be in the way.
B: Have a designated area for those that teched the day before and one for those that didn't. I think it would cause less trouble for those teching to see that they have gotten everyone.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'll edit if I have further ideas.

what was the root of the problem for the late start? we fix that and subtract the wind and i think we would have been fine.

Again a BIG BIG thanks to Davis, and the rest of the SWVR "north" crew for a great job on the event... below are my things to look at for our future events.

1. Dedicated Tech area... aka Sign up... then take your tech form and car to the tech area... doing tech by wandering arround is not ideal when car counts pass 70.

2. courses that allow a car to start every 20 to 30 seconds... 2 or 3 cars on course at a time for longer courses.

3. A worker Chief to assign work positions... thus all positions should be covered.

4. Groups that Run then work right after ... you will get maximum worker participation this way.. IE no one forgets to come back (hey it happens)

None of the above should take away from the effort of all those involved with the Parkersburg event. I truly hope we get to go back, with good weather!!

It was a cold dark windy rainy morning and the course setup gnomes had much trouble seeing where to put things / make finnal decisions on things being the first event at the site... yet I agree with larger turnouts keeping on schedule is paramount.... but yes the root of the problem was weather as well!!

so we need to take into account the lingering darkness this time of year...well not anymore after the time change, but you know what i mean. what's the remedy/ies, cap the registration to a lower number so we can still finish at a reasonable time?

We haven't yet heard from the event organizor.
We will have plenty of time to iron out things for next time. It is best perhaps, to talk about it while still fresh on our minds.
Davis, what do you think?

Davis told me a few days ago that he'd be away from internet access for a few weeks. I'm not sure if he's away just yet, but just wanted to let you guys know, incase he doesn't speak up.

I agree that we should have more cones for next time we run at this place. but also, since it was so large... when cones got stuck under cars it took a long time to get the cones back to where they needed to be because someone had to run a very long distance at times to get the cone back to the right place... therefor I'd suggest having like 3 extra cones off to the side at each worker station so that when a cone gets wisked away under a car, it doesn't take a long time to reset the course.

also I'd suggest having some trash cans located around the place. it will make is easier to keep the area clean...

Seems like a lot of good ideas. Could some of these be used to help with all the events, not just the ones with larger courses, or turnouts?

The only suggestion I have I saw BRR use. Their tech was done at one area as metioned above. They also use a round stickers, one you get when you pay, and a second (smaller) one when you pass tech. I saw some stickers similiar to this at Office Max the other day. I don't remember the price, but I remember thinking that they were not very expensive. Two different size stickers could be used, or one set of stickers, and maybe a pack of different color sharpies. You get the sticker when you pay, and when you pass tech, whoever is doing tech could mark, or initial the round sticker. I also remember an earlier discussion about a problem with making sure everyone pays, this could help solve two problems.

Using two cones stacked is an idea that was used at another event I was at. Our trouble is, we don't have enough. Putting a few extras around the course is something we usually do, but once again we really didn't have enough. I took a bit lond setting the course up, largely due to darkness and driving rain. It was hard to get a good look at what you had just set up. I am sure we will do better next time, but one of my biggest recommendations would be to try and hold the event earlier in the year so time constraints wouldn't be as short. I am sure it will go better next time, but it wasn't too bad this time considering all we had to fight. Thanks , Davis, next time I will try and help more.

Wouldn't the doubled cones also double the static weight of the pylons? I guess we wouldn't always be doubling them up, but it's something we might want to think about. If it's the only real option we have, then so be it.

Also, did anyone bring back the trailer?
