Adios, Honda

Honda is on its way out (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7766092.stm) of F1:
Honda will quit Formula One on Friday, BBC Sport understands.

The Japanese company hopes to sell its team, which costs £200m a year to run, but is prepared to close the team early in 2009 if no buyer is found.

Sources told BBC Sport the team were "optimistic" they would continue, but an investor had yet been found.

I'm not surprised that this is going to happen, but I'm surprised it's Honda rather than, say, Force India or even Toyota.

BBC sports news correspondent Adam Parsons says the team is for sale for £1 - although any buyer would need to find a budget in the region of £40m to operate it in 2009.

Wouldn't a better idea be pay the pound and sell off the stuff to other teams?

BTW - Audi announced today that it's pulling out of ALMS, too (except for Sebring).

Just to keep it all in one thread, Subaru is pulling out of World Rally (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/world_rally/7785299.stm). Suzuki did so yesterday, leaving only Ford and Citroen.

I have a feelling we will see a lot more of this.

I can not see Chevy, Ford and Chrysler staying in motor sports with the billons of dollars they are loosing every quarter.

I hope is does not happen, but I would not be suprised if it did
