I'm building a guitar for my daughter and need a couple of cover plates made to hide the openings for the electronics in the back of the body. Steel or aluminum would work. One is a basic rectangle, but the other has some compound curves. Any takers?

Plastic would rock - that's what a factory would use. Don't know where I'd find sheet plastic locally (trying to keep the cost down by not ordering stuff online). Fountain Hobby used to have it back in the day. Are you saying you've got a Dremel and the proper routing bits, Luke? Body was painted yesterday (metallic orange, like her favourite car - Mitsu Eclipse). Clear coat will be shot today or tomorrow.

also sometimes the best thing that i do is like find a plastic moving box or somthing of that nature and cut it up the way u need it, usually alot easier to find what you want that way

scott, fiber glass weave might work. just set some weave on some foil on your garage floor. lay down layers with resin, let dry, dremel. cheap at lowes...

Thanks for the input, guys. Luke, I may take you up on your offer. I'll try to make templates after the finish work is done. I'm not sure what kind of wood the body is, but it's an old Ibanez so I'm guessing basswood. This is a "partscaster" made mostly from stuff I've got laying around - the aforementioned Ibanez body, originally H/S/S but both single coil openings have been filled in, a Kramer neck from the 80's, a Dimarzio Super Distortion pickup... Body was originally routed for a Floyd Rose trem (full floater, couldn't get it to stay in tune) but I've filled in the routs with solid poplar. Paint's done - looks great from across the garage. Should look better once the clear is shot later this week. Sorry for the long post - my guitar obsession goes back all the way to high school...
