Any thoughts on this one (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/08/opinion/08sepkowitz.html?_r=1&oref=slogin), sports fans?
SPEEDING is the cause of 30 percent of all traffic deaths in the United States — about 13,000 people a year. By comparison, alcohol is blamed 39 percent of the time, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. But unlike drinking, which requires the police, breathalyzers and coercion to improve drivers’ behavior, there’s a simple way to prevent speeding: quit building cars that can exceed the speed limit.
I'm not sure it's even technically feasible, much less it being dumb dumb dumb.

They need to do a study on the number of morons killed talking on the cell phone or texting when driving.

Typical narrow-minded answer, apparently governing our top speed is the only answer this author sees. Obviously easier to facilitate than better education and more frequent testing. Did the author research how many "speeding" accidents/deaths were related to poor weather? Governing our top speed wont help anyone going too fast in a blizzard!!!
Besides we all know everyone would find a bypass or just get bigger tires to speed if they did that! = )

If everybody autocrossed, they would be more skilled at handling emergency situations. Autox saved my life in my encounter with an 18 wheeler!

In the U.S
Guns kill about 30,000 a year
Smoking about 400,000 a year
Medical Errors 200,000 a year
Cars sound pretty safe to me

GPS and googlemaps... I can see the headlines now...
"All traffic in the US slows to a 15MPH pace as GPS signals were disrupted due to a glitch in the satelite programming"
