Walked into the garage last Monday (after the last event) to find my left rear RA-1 flat. No mystery - big screw in one of the tread blocks. Raised the car, removed the wheel/tire and took it to BRIT - closed for the week. Went on to SC Tire - not open yet (they don't open 'til 9am!). Wait for them to open, gal says she'll have one of the guys call with a prognosis. 2 hours later, the bad news just keeps comin' - can't be patched. $200 down the toilet. Arrgh!

That really sucks! Maybe I can get Dad to get you a set of those flat-proof military tires that they use.

What size is it Scott? Might want to call Phil's tire place to see if he has a used one... was the puncture on the sidewall? If it's in the tread area it should be fixable...hmmm

It's in the tread, but instead of just poking straight in, the screw slashed in at an angle. Theres's a gash about 3/4 inch long, perpendicular to the direction of travel. I'm told that the first good g-load would pull a patch apart. Any used tire would have to be barely used - the rears (245/45/16 - 944 Turbo size) were wearing very slowly. Fronts are another story.

Miro, I am thinking it might not be fixable...if it's a gash then the tire is a toast unfortunatelly AFAIK...

Well, if it makes ya feel better I'm gonna have to get two new tires before I can autocross again. That last one tore up my fronts real good. A piece of the tread has ripped up on one of them. Pretty deep, but not to the threads. Don't trust it for another autocross for sure though.
