How can I get an official ruling concerning C-stock rules? Go Miata recommends the installation of a swaybar bracket reinforcement flange when using their tubular front sway bar on a 99 Mazda Miata. However, sec 13.7 par.4 reads:

"No modification to the body, frame or other components to accommodate anti-roll bar addition or substitution is allowed, except for the drilling of holes for mounting bolts. Non-standard lateral members which connect between the brackets for the bar are not permitted." (p.68 2007 Solo Rules)

The recommended flange must be welded onto the lower arm to convert the "L" bracket into a "U" bracket as found on earlier models of the Miata. This also requires substituting different end links.

Does the SCCA have a source for getting a ruling on this question?

Might ask on a Mazda/Miata forum somewhere (try here (http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/index.php?) if you haven't yet) - someone else has surely dealt with this before, particularly if that's the recommended install.

Just glancing at the rules and your intentions, it sounds illegal...but you should definitelly check with the C-Stock crowd... try racepa.com for starters... let us know what the verdict is..

Found this for you Luke, haven't read it all yet but have at it and let us know what's up...

not sure about the rule, but i've seen a beefy front sway tear the mount point off of the front a-arm on a newish wrx, so i can see the concern and cause for an upgrade on some cars.

I think I may have not been precise in my question. I am not referring to the sway bar mounts, but the point at which the sway bar end link attaches to the front lower arm. The 99 Miata has an L shaped bracket. The modification is a flange that is welded to the lower arm to make it a U shaped bracket.

It would be the same concern though...modifications to lower control arms are prohibited AFAIK.... I would contact CHris Kirkham Luke and see what hee has to say about this, I am sure he'll know.

I posed the question on the SCCA forum and the consensus seems to be that such modification is illegal, but more importantly, not necessary.
