I was wondering how much track time you get, how nice the facility is and if it is worth the trip up. I was thinking about going this summer.

Uh... yep. Nice place. Rumor has it that they are adding to the track.

I think I will give it a shot this summer. I am also going to summit point hyper drive at the hyperfest too. I have never been to either track.

I almost forgot about you going to the triple crown thing at Mid-Ohio. I've never been to Summit Point. I've been to 5 different tracks in 5 different states. Yet, I've never been to the one track in my home state.

Which track at Summit will you be on? The only one I've been on is Shenandoah, which is very busy. The instructor I had at VIR in February thinks that Summit Main is a more technical track than VIR, for what it's worth.

BeaveRun flat out days are broken into Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4. I've been going to BeaveRun for the last 5 years and they've indicated they are adding to it every year, I doubt it'll happen this year.

Group 1 is where you will start, generally get 3 20 minute sessions with interspersed class room sessions. Group 3 is solo, Group 4 is only for instructors and is usually held in the afternoons. BeaveRun is a fun track, the final turn leading into the front straight is a place to screw up at. Turn 1-2 are fun, you head into 1 up the hill and the visual references are a little blind.

Summit Main is an entertaining track, worst turn being 10. They repaved it twice last year. You can track out fairly wide in 10 and there is a section of extra road there, but you will likely never use that section. The lead into turn 1 is a fairly high speed part, hitting maybe 120 in a ITA car.

Given these are driving instruction sessions you will be kept tame. If you want something instructor less I'd suggest doing both time trials at the Wilson Circuit or hit up NASA and the Patriot Circuit time trials.

Hyperfest is a hit or a miss, it is geared towards the "tuner" crowd and I personally stay far away from it given the number of random thefts in years past. If you want a more sedate track weekend, hit up Summit with NASA during a regular race weekend or SCCA's new PDX program. I like the PDX program a little better because its just PDX and nothing else, with the racing + track weekend situation any incident means sessions are shortened by a little. Flatout days are great if you just want to do a single day and not an entire weekend. You could also look into the Mazda, PCA, BMWCCA or other car groups - quite a few of our members instruct there - Bill Gammon, Dan Whiteman, etc.

A real track day is way too addictive.

Yeah (which by itself doesn't have the 10 minimum characters necessary to post).

What about turn 7? You can't see the apex until it's too late. You have to remember where it is. Fun stuff.

Hyperfest was designed to attract young kids to racing, sadly given the weekend festivities it attracts a lot of not so smart kids. In years past wheels/tires and other random things have disappeared from trucks/trailers/etc. Hyperfest is the only weekend where we lock everything, for instance right now I am sitting in the Chez at Summit Point and we have everything out in the open but I know nothing will disappear since its a regular race weekend.
