I'll be running the Hershey Park double autox that weekend.
I had the car setup neutral, it did great at the first event. 2nd event, the long sweeping turns killed me. Every time I even thought about the throttle, the rear end wanted to come around. I have 2 events on the new sways, I will gain knowledge over time and be able to change them according to the track. Good or bad, it's fun as HELL!!!

Judd: my 2 cents... don't futz with anything for now. Get some time to get used to the new setup. When I ran with my big honking rear bar for the first time I thought everything was broken since the car stepped out with the slightest throttle lift. Now I use that to get the car to rotate and dance through fast transitions.

We don't leave til SUnday Judd... you should come if you can...
Sean, the clutch was engaging really, really low (actually it wasn't releasing all the way so it was impossible to put it in gear) ... but looks like it was mostly the aftermarket (read el cheapo advance) clutch pedal cover...it was catching on the carpet/floor so the clutch didn't release all the way...It
s still engaging quite low but it works for now, hopefully it'll break in a little and it'll be fine. The engine sounds great so far, hopefully I can do some tuning soon. The weather forecast is not looking good for this area though so it might have to wait til Saturday...

Thats why I don't use a clutch pedal cover. Instead use skateboard tape, you really don't need a clutch pedal cover.

Hey, Marteen. Is 6.00 am OK? It will take about 2 1/2 hours to get there.

Yup, that would be a much better choice...although now the pedal is completelly stock with the stock rubber boot installed... the other cover has been there since I got the car and just forgot all about it...oh well. I think there were other factors though...with a whole new clutch setup the feel and engagement point have changed quite a bit...we'll just have to see how she wears in...worst case scenario, the flywheel will be resurfaced without a step to put the release point closer to the middle of the fork travel... (hope that makes sense..heh)
As far as the Salem event, we'll meet at the Exxon at 6am and we'll leave at 6:15 or so, that should give us plenty of time to get there and get ready for the event. They don't close registration and tech til after 10...

Oh bugger!
Ian Baker is running Hershey... I need to bring my A game, then find a better driver and then I might have a chance at being within 4 seconds of his time.
This is actually awesome because I really wanted to see how I was going to do against real competition and Ian is an amazing driver.

FYI... Ian was 3rd at Nationals last year, 4/10th away from the title after 2 days. Sometimes I wish I was running a "softer" class, sadly STS/STS2 has grown to be one of the toughest classes in this part of the country.

I ordered new 710s not here yet, won't know until late Friday. If the tires make it I will be able to haul Jacks tires. If not I will just drive the car.
Kevin
Im trying to work it out so I can go. Bout 80% sure now. Will know for sure tommorow evening. If I go, I can haul jack's tires and some other stuff if needed. Whats our ETA for sunday evening back in Chuck Town? Or else, what time is this Salem event usually over?

Usually we're done around 3. Last year there were a bunch of loops in the course that made the event run a little slower. I would say you should be done by 4.
See you all Sunday!

Well the celica made it to Morgantown and back yesterday (engine break-in) , it souds and drives great so far. Time for some power tuning tomorrow..... Overall impressions are great, turbo is way more responsive and steering is much quicker after all the spindle modifications... almost too quick for the interstate...heh
Also brought back over 15 gallons of E85 so more tuning next week....for this weekend I'll be on regular gas with very conservative tune so we'll see...
I still can't believe that E85 is $3.45 or so...I thought it was under $3.00....oh well...still cheaper than $7 or $8 for C16....
Thanks for coming along Tara!
Judd, we're usually back by 8 or so...that's with a dinner stop...

Thanks Nate, yes it was a great feeling to be driving it again after 6 months... Jason left me a message also...he saw me too coming back to Charleston I guess... can't hide in that car...lol
Just a quick story... as I was getting ready to pump the E85 last night, I went inside to ask the clerk if it's really E85 or if they are still on E70 (ethanol winter blend for easier starts)....well it took me about 5 minutes of explaining and pointing at the "corn cobb" painted pump until they realized what they had... They even carry the low sulphur gas and it is just interesting ot see how little (read none) training these folks have... Now it's time to find a way to measure ethanol content....:partay:

OMG, wow. i'd bet it's E70, they probably don't have many people using it. as you know, be cautious when tuning. or, you could call their distributor and see.

Just called their main distributor and it is in fact E70 for now... they said the station won't be filled up with E85 til middle of May. Looks like celi might have three or four different maps... (93, E85, E70 and C12) Maybe I
I'll just add some vodka to the E70 to improve it a bit...heh :partay:
Jack, too bad you're not coming, hope you make it to a few more out of town events... you should consider Steel Cities, lot of good competition and good people...

Yeah, well I don't know about all of that. I had a hard time keeping the car from swapping ends yesterday. Besides, when Miro gets the Acura sorted out he's gonna be right there. Congrats to you Marteen. I was taking pictures from one of the worker stations and pointed out to the boys there how well you were getting through the part of the course at the bottom of the hill.
As for the pictures, I can only take credit for the first 70 or so. Wendy and Shawn took around 500 between them, and Mick still hasn't posted his.

Salem is an interesting venue as you have soooo many elevation changes and off and on-camber corners....you don't ever drive any of the corners the same...every single one is different...that's what makes it interesting.
So the Canon Xt was yours...I must have talked to Shawn then as he had the camera near our worker station. Thanks again for all the shots, Ray, Shawn and Wendy! :f1:
