I am looking for two more people to go in on purchase of a set of scales.
The lifetime (can use anytime in my garage or anywhere else) "membership" will cost $45.
So far the list includes:

Martin
Robert G.
Nate M.
Robbie?

The price is calculated for 5 people and if we have a couple more it will drop accordingly. People are responsible for their own changes. The purchase date would be withing the next two weeks.

I'm seriously considering a set of digital scales. So, I'm out for now. How much would you charge to rent the scales? Or is that an option?

Would you bring the scales to events? If not, I probably would not have an opportunity to use them. If so, count me in.

Two fold:

Some classes (SM, SM2, etc) have a minimum weight that you have to meet otherwise face disqualification at a larger event.

Second, you want to balance each corner of your car so that you have 50-50 or close thereof weight distribution. You can do this on cars with adjustable suspension by raising or lowering the ride height.

Would you bring the scales to events?

The scales must be on a perfectly level surface in order to do it properly. 1/4" difference in diagonal corners will likely throw off the reading by quite a bit. Most scale manufactures sale scale platforms that allow this to be done more efficiently. I use 1/8" floor tile along with a custom water level to do the job in my garage. My garage "looks" level, but it's off by like 1 1/4" on diagonal corners(FD to RP).

I'm not saying that it can't be done at an event, but it's not as simple as it seems. Also, adjusting the weight usually involves taking wheels off multiple times. It's not something that you want to be rushed doing.

Luke, If you'd like to do this at events you should consider going up to Steel Cities' Test and tune... they have a nice set of scales and set them up at their test events every time.
Unfortunatelly it would not be feasible for me to bring the scales to our events...as Robbie already explained, it has to be perfectly level and can be very time consuming... the scales would be setup in my garage with level surface so people could use them there...

...on the way to my house. Look for a video soon. I'll likely be renting them out for a small price.

Since we haven't ordered anything for now this might be a great alternative Robbie, count me in!
Also nice job on the alignment videos!
